Are tere still arcade machines in your country?
« on: September 22, 2016, 06:51:32 am »
When I was a child in the 90's I used to play arcade machines. I loved and love the kind of games you can find there. My favorites: Street Fighter II, Cadillacs and Dinosaurs, Sunset Riders, Time Crisis, Metal Slug...

Unfortunately, after the year 2000 they were dissapearing little by little, th price of the credit increased and people could get home systems that were as well powered as arcade machines so they became less populars.

Nowadays, it's very hard to find one in Spain, some geek or retro shop have a machine or two, or some gamer association also. But it's almost impossible to find video arcades as a simple bussiness or in malls or cinemas.

Are there places in your country wit aracade machines? Do you go often?

Yes! There is are a few local arcades with both old and new games in Utah, USA. I hear Las Vegas has a Pinball Hall of Fame with old (1950s and newer) machines that you can still play!

Usually the machines are either 5 or 25 cents per play!

Absolutely. The sea side towns have plenty of them. You can still find a few in bowling alleys and movie theatres as well. There are also businesses and restaurants that cater towards kid's birthday parties that have them too.

A trendy place I've been going to in recent years is Barcade. Exactly as it sounds, Bar + arcade. They have all the classic refurbished cabinets from the 80s and 90s you'd want to play.

Most classic games are 25-50¢ while some newer games can be $1.00-2.00

We don't actually have any arcades left here, but we have plenty of machines. Mainly places for kids they have some setup. The most popular one locally still uses quarters and dispenses tickets for the crappy prizes too.

You could emulate them on a computer, with a xbox 360 controller.  A keyboard works though.

For emulation software check out: http://www.emuparadise.me/roms-isos-games.php
This is an article that covers this more in depth. http://lifehacker.com/5835259/how-to-turn-your-computer-into-a-retro-game-arcade

I've emulated NES, SNES and N64 pretty easily.  For those old 90s games, I don't think you will have any trouble.  The old roms are super tiny as well.  You could easily have all the old arcade games on a single machine.

And if you wanted to really get into it, you could set an old CRT monitor into a arcade style housing with arcade style usb controllers.

For extra realism, you could mail me all the quarters you don't use  :lol

In Niagara Falls alone, We have 2 major Arcades, with a few stores with a few machines, but they aren't dead yet, The Great Canadian Midway is right in the Tourist District,  with lots of games ;)

I found one arcade machine in my city! It has a computer inside with a MAME, but a lot of cool games also and six buttons!

It would be impossible to find it in a Spanish school.

I prefer 16 bits/90's games (Street Fighter II, Sunset Riders, Metal Slug, Puzzle Bobble...) to 8 bits/80's game (the games you have mentioned) but on of my favorite games is Bubble Bobble (1985).
