Straight to video/DVD sequels are never really that great to begin with. I try and avoid them. But I like the range of responses so far :)

Hellraiser is a cool film and 2 and 3 are ok and 4 onwards to about 8 are awful. The newest one was only made to keep the rights to do the films so it was really cheap and so small budget and the guy who plays pinhead for the first time said he wouldnt do it just for a waste film only being made for the rights. Bad sequels

I loved Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl. I'm so glad that they didn't make any sequels to that wonderful movie. It really stands on its own and doesn't need any sequels.

Seems that all Hollywood tries to do is make movies that can have sequels.

It's thanks to a thing called brand recognition.  It's the reason that it seems every movie coming out today is either a sequel, a reboot, a remake, a spinoff or an adaptation of some other property.

Earlier in the thread somebody mentioned  Hellraiser, which must hold some kind of record for spawning the most forgettable direct to DVD sequels.  Basically the rights holders figured out that they could take any generic script for a  dark police thriller, insert a subplot involving the magic puzzle box, and a few scenes where Pinhead shows up to say something creepy & you've got the next Hellraiser film.

Yup. I haven't seen the fourth movie, but the second and third ones were terrible.
