Pasco [Florida] to spend tourist tax dollars to promote nudist resorts
By Lee Logan, Times Staff WriterTampa Bay Times

NEW PORT RICHEY — County commissioners on Tuesday awarded $3,800 in tourist tax money to help promote Pasco as an international nudist destination.

The money was awarded to the Pasco Area Naturist Development Association [PANDA] and will be used to advertise Pasco's resorts in international nudist magazines. Advertisements will promote the months of July and August, when tourism lags in Florida and many Europeans are looking to take extended vacations. The initial target market would be attracting German families.

While I'm not a big proponent of governments spending tax dollars to promote private businesses, this sounds like a worthwhile way to attract tourists in Florida's off-season, which is summer.

I hope this advertising attracts lots of European tourists so that Florida politicians and businesses will realize that being naturist-friendly is good for business.

:3145; Hopefully the ads are successful to the point that government will no longer need to fund the ads and they will be funded by the group itself.

I love Florida... It was the place of my first public naturist experience, and I will be going back there for a few weeks in April and May, the people of Miami-Dade County have realized the benefits of a nude beach, just look at the parking fees it generates.

That being said, I have never been to Pasco county, my trip near there next month just got cancelled, but I had to laugh when I read the article... $3,800... seriously? How much advertising can they buy in Europe for that paltry sum... Can that even make a dent? that wouldn't even buy a single, one-time aired, 30-second commercial, on a second rate channel in the U.S.... but hey, at least the news generated a lot of free publicity.

I think its a great idea.  The goverment blows billions of bucks on a lot things far less deserving then this.  This will help create jobs and we need to get the economy going.  I also support anything that promotes the nudist lifestyle

That's really cool. Any time a local/state government shows they're alright with naturism is good. It sure makes me think about moving to Florida even more.

I do hope that when they advertise Caliente, they make clear it's not exactly a family naturist resort. It would be awkward for a European family to show up to Caliente to find it's slightly different than what they had in mind.

I'm unfamiliar with Paradise Lakes, but with the FAQ mentioning children, it would seem that location is meant for families.

Not unless it has changed since we went there years ago a couple of times.  We saw two kids and they were not at all around the pool.  Cypress Cove or Lake Como, more so, but the Lakes is not a family friendly place.

$3,800?!  Are you kidding me?  That's like winning a $50 scholarship to go to college

but hey, at least the news generated a lot of free publicity.

Indeed, and at least it's something
