A few friends of mine have gotten me into D&D recently, and it's a lot of fun, even if it's a pain in the ass to learn all the rules.

I think the Star Wars rulesset is much easier to get than D&D. Once you get used to D&D mechanics, other systems will be easier to understand (mostly). It depends on the rulesset. Which version are you playing?

5e. I understand it's the most streamlined version and easiest to get into out of the various versions. I tried looking at the 3.5 rules once and got totally lost. What's the star wars ruleset?

It is a proprietary rulesset by Fantasy Flight games. It uses special dice to decide the effectiveness of skill checks. I can discuss it further on the discord if you want. The questions you ask will probably be common to most new players, and it would be helpful for people to see previous discussion, but if you prefer to post here, that is fine.

Let me know if you have further questions. I am not sure how to better explain it without going into a lot of detail on the technical details. It is easier for me if either you try it out, or ask me specific questions.

A new version of World of Darkness and Vampire: The Masquerade came earlier this year (2018 still here...), and I'm wanting to get in to it but have no one to play with at the moment. And the local store is having issues with delivery, so I have to wait it out sadly... Maybe I'll have some luck in 2019.

Sorry mate. At the moment I am only playing Star Wars. But maybe one day I’ll open up Mage: The awakening.

I am very very late to the party but I figured I would weigh in a little bit.
I personally currently play DnD 5E I like how everything ties in to character building and story, though I'm not as big a fan of how much of the lore they scrubbed to make it more beginner friendly.
I also currently play New World of Darkness as well as both Vampire: The Masquerade (I think the 20th anniversary edition, I'm not sure) and Vampire the Requiem. To be fair I don't really play a lot of the White Wolf publishing games, but I've had a storyteller who really liked those games and made me enjoy them more than I think I would have otherwise.

We love to play also "Cthulhu" it is a pan and paper game like D&D.

When we play Tabletops we really like: - Mansions of Madness (Villen des Wahnsinns)
                                                               - Legends of Andor      (Die Legenden von Andor)
                                                               - Eldritch Horror

Old fashioned board games are really great. They are simple to learn, but can take a long time to master.

Personally, I still love the ones I grew up with the most. I refer to them as "Classic" Board Games now since most people have vastly different ideas of board games nowadays. Those include: Monopoly, Life, Scrabble, Risk, Chess, Checkers...that's all I can think of at the moment. Of course, I have more kid-oriented games too from my childhood. In Crossbows & Catapults, you actually assemble a castle out of loose-fitting blocks and your opponent does the same several feet away. Then you launch plastic discs in an attempt to destroy each other's castles! So much fun, adults are way too serious though, so I never get to play anymore.
