Minecraft, it gives me chills sometimes. It's so nostalgic and beautiful. Very melancholic.

Kingdom Hearts is probably one of those games I like more for it's sound design, and less for it's actual narrative. Kind of been Square-Enix thing lately. Yoko Shimomura is pretty amazing at making music that's kind of bouncy/intense/sad/introspective

I do like Nobou Uematsu but since he left Final Fantasy it's hard for me to keep track of his recent works. That and Yasonuri Mitsuda. Dude's a legend inmho. Xenogear's soundtrack? Chrono Cross? Even Chrono Trigger was amazing at the time.

World of Warcraft has some pretty decent music in it too.. at least the later expansions. Don't have any names attached to it, but there's some pretty good stuff in there too.

Some one had started a thread on video game soundtracks on another form i use and it has been a really interesting thread so i thought id start it here.

The question is what is your favorite video game sound track?

My favorite over all soundtracks are mass effect, halo and final fantasy. Other good ones are skyrim, fallout new vegas and okami. I also own the soundtrack cds to tekken 5 and 6 and street fighter 4. I think these games have the perfect music for a beat em up. Resident evil is very good at using a subtle soundtrack and silence to create tension.

Music in videogames is more important to me than graphics. It sets the tone, adds to tension and makesset pieces feel more epic.

My favorite soundtrack for a video game was the Red Dead Redemption 2 soundtrack. The sound was so beautiful and set the mood just as much as the graphics and scenery did in each mission. Just listening to the music could tell you what the mission was gonna be like or the mood of the characters at this point or that an epic battle was coming up. The music would really get me into the zone when it came to some missions.

I've been filming Final Mix 1 since every Kingdom Hearts title dropped on Xbox Game Pass and ever since, I remembered why Yoko Shimomura's score was so memorable. As such, I'm glad Square Enix is finally getting together a rhythm game dedicated to her work on the series.

In regards to the music, the idea that Assassin's Creed died with Desmond has some semblance of truth. It would be too much to want Jesper Kyd to not leave the franchise knowing he works on others like Borderlands. Nevertheless, I did still enjoy what Lorne Balfe and Brian Tyler brought to the Kenway saga.

Yeah, Yoko Shimomura makes great music. I also like her work on Legends of Mana.
