Floorball
« on: April 12, 2012, 12:36:07 am »
Hi,

Does anyone here use to play floorball or at least know what it is ? Indeed it's not a very common sport (except in some countries like nordic countries or Switzerland). It looks like icehockey but without all the violent contacts and without the ice (so it means that we run instead of skating). In german it's called "Unihockey". I have played it for about 3 years now and I really enjoy it. You can quickly get lots of fun with this sport without having that much experience or techniques.

Salut Linto,

Je connais pas du tout le "floorball", ça doit être génial de le pratiquer dans un environnement naturiste.
Quelles sont les règles de base ?

PS : n'hésite pas à m'écrire en MP !

Floorball is being played with sticks and a ball. Five field players play against five other. There are two cages situated on each side of the field with a goalie in front of it to protect it. The goal is of course to have the ball put within the cage of the opposing team. The rules are far more stricts than those of ice hockey: very few contacts are allowed for example. This allows the game to be quite fluid and not rude.

Here's a nice video:

I've never tried to play it naked. As a sport to be played naked, floorball wouldn't be the first one to come to my mind (because it's an indoor sport and because of the need for some specific equipments like sticks and cages, etc ...). But, anyway, it's still a very entertaining game.

Isn't this the same as field hockey?

Not really. Floorball is an indoor sport and it's more similar to ice hockey concerning the placement of the players (five against five). Moreover the sticks and the ball are also different from those used in field hockey. In swedish, floorball is called "innebandy" and in finnish it's "salibandy".

Ahh, yes, we call it "innebandy" in Norway as well=D
But I always thought those two were the same.. except from being played inside..

It's cool tho! I've played it once in just briefs... never completely nude tho=P

Ola, as a Norwegian, it would have been indeed very weird if you didn't know the existence of floorball! ;)

Oh yes, I played this game in high school during gym class. Very fun game! Can't remember what we called it at the time, I don't think it was floorball. Maybe we called it field hockey; which, according to you guys, would be incorrect  :P

I've already heard it was sometimes called Unihoc in Belgian but I didn't know it was also the case for Ireland.
By the way, Unihoc is actually the name of a swedish brand selling floorball's equipment.

I played a variation in high school PE class once. We had to wear protective cups to protect the man bits. Do you wear them when u play?? This would make it tough if u wanted to play it nude

No need for protective cups, except the goalie, who has a whole protective gear (helmet, knee pads, cup, "breastplate"). But field players usually don't use any protection. Floorball is normally a sport with very few contacts, moreover we're not allowed to lift the sticks too high and the ball is quite small and light, so playing as a field player doesn't require any particular protections.
Of course getting touched by a shot isn't the most pleasant thing on earth , but the pain is very transient (a few seconds) and quite weak. The only protection that field players might use is protective glasses like those used for squash (but most players just don't use any).

I used to play unihockey in school, but we played only two times in last year. I was the only one who liked it :) .
