Flashman
« on: April 19, 2012, 08:32:34 pm »
I love this series of books by George Macdonald Fraser about Harry Flashman, a Victorian lecher and cad who was also Her Majesty's most decorated war hero, (her earned his medals by running like hell but most people never knew that).

His adventures were based on real life 19th century occurences like the First Afghan War, The 1857 Indian Mutiny, The Crimean War and the Taiping Rebellion where he met real life miltary and political figures from that era.

If anyone else got confused by the title, this is not about Choushinsei Flashman

That sounds a lot like the Caiphas Cain series of sci-fi books from the Warhammer 40,000 universe.

George Macdonald Fraser was reading the book "Tom Brown's Schooldays" by Thomas Hughes where there was a bully called Flashman so Fraser decided to greatly expand and flesh out this character.
