Mountain biking

Any mountain biker here ? For my part i do downhill,

i own a 2005 Devinci Ollie. (Devinci is a canadian bicycle brand)

Yeah, I ride! ... not so much as I used to now and nowhere near as much as I'd like to.

A few years ago I used to race DH a lot, but racing in the UK has become pretty expensive, due to liability issues and health and safety crap from landowners.

My race bike is an older style Giant Glory. She's pretty battered, but still going strong!

I normally do most of my own work but I apparantly can't change tubes correctly. Baby powder doesn't seem to work and I just kept blowing tubes until I got frustrated.

Don't use tyre levers unless you REALLY need to. 50% of the time you'll pinch the tube and have to start again.

Also, don't use crap tyres. If you do anything rough, double-walled are the only option to avoid flats.

and check your pressure too, not enough and you risk to pinch flat, too much and youll slip on every corner.... 
downhill wise > 30-35 psi

That depends on the tyres though.

I've run Michelin tubeless tyres with fat inners tubes in down to as low as 10psi and not have any worrys about punctures!

wow thats crazy  ! even if your dont puncture your tube, your gonna kink the hell out of your rim !

i currently have a set of michelin tubeless  tires on my bike with heavy duty tubes. (DH16 at the rear and DH32 at the front)
i was riding at 25 psi the other day, guess what, i punctured on a rock...

Yeah, I do smash wheels a bit, but it doesn't really matter if they're a bit square!

Have you ridden at Mont Saint Anne?

I love watching the world cup there ... that track looks awesome!

I never went to mont sainte anne, its like 3 hours of driving to get there....

I go at Bromont instead... sometimes the world cup is there too. Great mountain, very technical tracks.
And its only 1 hour of driving from montreal.. :)

My problem was almost entirely crap tires. Our local market is small and I feel really odd buying bike tires online without knowing what brands are best.

We actually have a good bike shop now, I just haven't taken it in yet.

For tires, go with maxxis, you cant go wrong with these

We don't really have much high stuff in England. I've been up to Fort William quite a few times (which is really tough) and down to the Alpine tracks, but they're more one-off holidays. Our regular tracks are usually just vehicle uplifts, not chairlifts.

As for tyres, yeah, you can't go wrong with Maxxiss, but get the right ones as there are loads of versions. Most  of their tyres all have three different compound options, and two different sidewall options, so it can be a bit difficult to know what to get!

I need to either get my bike fixed, or replace it. But either takes money, which I just don't have right at the moment.
