Project Hail Mary

Over the past couple of weeks, I have watched a fair few movies, which is weird because I usually don't really watch movies. I guess things have just been that slow lately.

The first of the batch was Project Hail Mary. It was definitely a good movie, fun and interesting, but the UNBALANCED CENTRIFUGE... as a molecular biologist, that hurt me.

After that, I went through a run of MCU films. I started with Werewolf by Night, which was nice. I like the spooky noir vibe. Then Captain America: Brave New World, which had a plot but was kinda meh (not absolutely awful, but also just kinda boring). And then Thunderbolts, which was actually really good. Idk what I'm gonna watch next, but I'm sure something will come up.

unsurprisingly, the odyssey. and yes, i got to see it in ("regular") imax! blasted my ears out but it was worth it. was physically shaking as i left the theater, though that might have just been low blood sugar.

expect your typical nolan: stoic man grappling with the apocalyptic consequences of his actions. thematically, nothing particularly transgressive, but still quite poignant. sometimes it crosses from just suspense into creature- and body-horror to really great effect.

also: john leguizamo, samantha morton and elliot page were my (frankly unexpected) highlights.

The live voices were what made the production. I hope the cinema captured perhaps the best bass i've ever heard.
