Is creativity better in the nude?
« on: September 22, 2012, 02:07:40 pm »
A little article on writing..in the nude:

  By Carolyn Kellogg September 17, 2012, 8:02 a.m.
Should we write in the nude? That's what Robert McCrum at the Guardian asks. It can, he suggests, get the creativity flowing.
Creating while naked is all the rage -- it is, isn't it, if Lady Gaga is doing it? According to an unnamed source in the U.K.'s the Sun, “Gaga has really taken to the idea of naked recording. She has been recording vocals while she’s been completely starkers.”
Why? “She thinks it makes her voice sound better.”
Could being unclothed help all artists make better art? There are people who live their lives as nudists, but as far as I know, no National Book Award winners have yet emerged from the nudist community. Nor have there been any nudist MacArthur "Genius" Fellows, Pulitzer Prize winners or Nobel laureates.
But being naked has been embraced by a few bookish types. Paul Winer, above, owns the Readers Oasis Bookstore in Quartzsite, Ariz. He is often unclothed, including when he plays piano for visitors.
But writers tend to be less performance-oriented and more modest. "Authors generally get no more daring than bedclothes," writes McCrum. He lists Winston Churchill, Walter Scott and George Orwell as some notables who liked to write from bed.
So did Mark Twain, James Joyce, Marcel Proust and Truman Capote. Charles Simic does, too.
Would their work be even better if they stripped down completely? It's possible that the freedom of being naked would allow writers to take greater creative risks.
In some circumstances -- such as Los Angeles' recent heat wave -- writing naked might be more practical than being clothed. In others, writing naked might be a wee bit chilly.
I'm not sure if being naked can lead to better writing. I did not write this in the nude; I wrote it in my pajamas.

I think that Naturism is really about learning from Nature, personal Nature, other peoples Natures, lifestyle Natures, and of course, Nature it's self. :) ^^ <3

Does it help you get into a creative mind set, I think it would depend on the person and situation. Does it make you more creative then you already are clothed, not so sure about that one. I think it could definitely help you relax and be more comfortable but if you have clothes on and you already are comfortable and relaxed then I believe you could achieve the same level of creativity. The hard part about this is proving or disproving it. I will go with plausible on this one.  :234567

I do all my design work in the nude. Thats part of the fun of being self employed. I find that being more relaxed and comfortable helps me work more easily. It applys to everything though. I find im better at video cames when im not constricted by clothing.

Winston Churchill used to write in the nude!  I read a series of letters he sent to a doctor friend and he mentions liking to start the day of with the sun warming his skin and he thought it helped him concentrate on the task at hand.  He didn't actually mention writing as one of the tasks but it was a letter after all.

Now I can't remember where and when I read these as they weren't relevant to what I was doing at the time but I'm sure they could be dug up if one wanted to try.

I think it brings highten sines, that goes hand in hand with your skill set. I sometimes play videogames nude and it helps with my focus and concentration. Iv also written a few poems nude and i think it helped. So i would say most likely it would be positive to do so.

I always play video games nude and I agree it helped a lot.  I seem to feel a range of motion and comfort which only adds to my concentration. :4345

I like to make graphic designs like logo, advertisement and pamphlets. And yes, nudity helps your grey cells a lot. Even notorious lessons like maths and physics are boosted when your skin is free. It's like those formulas and equations freely seep into your brain uninhibitedly.

PS: Archimedes arrived at his theory when he was nude.

This is true. I do most of my design work in the nude. I find being comfortable and un restricted helps me work.

Probably try and take online classes. i wonder if anyone would ever do a thesis on that, how learning the same curriculum nude v.s. clothed and how that would affect test scores at the end of the class.
