Lenovo thinkpad. They are great for never overheating, if someone is looking for that.

i really like thinkpads but if that only works in every model. one gave me always a hot lap, i do like that but in a different way and this one has been sent in for overheating. i could iron my stuff. they said its a well known reason for sending in.
@sevves
I have mine two and a half years. It's never even got hot once, i looked it up and they are military tested to avoid overheating.
Before that i had a Compaq. It was a nightmare for overheating and switching off.
Avoiding that was the main quality i looked for in a replacement.

mine was good in the beginning and started then last year to be unbearable, without a book or a newspaper i couldnt have it on my lap. it was really hot air like a hairdryer. after googling i realized i'm not the only one as well as my colleagues happened the same thing. it got worse until it shutdown multiple time because of overheating and this was in winter.

compaq is just cheap stuff, its good for random users who would buy today a tablet.

my last 3 laptops have been Asus, basically bullet-proof once you buy anything above a base model.

I have at the moment
- a desktop computer with... well, I've changed pieces so many times that I cannot remember what's inside. Anyway, it runs W8.1
- a Toshiba T130 laptop, with Ubuntu 14.04 inside
- a Sony Vaio Pro (i7, 8GB, touchscreen... my work machine :) )

I just realised I haven't posted an update since I built my new pc a little while ago.
I am now running,

Intel i5 4670k (stock clock)
nvidia GTX 660
8gb RAM
128gb SSD + 1tb HDD
asrock BBSM pro 4 mobo.
+ other random stuff.

Semi budget build, plays pretty much any game I throw at it, and is perfect for music making (which I mainly us it for), also multi monitors FTW! couldn't live without my second screen  :azn:

Just bought a new laptop.

I wanted win 7 because of all the problems with win 8 but they've more or less stopped designing computers for 7 so I did the same thing I did last time - downgraded a win 8 machine. Kind of a pain in the ass but then peace and happiness.
The other issue I had was to find one with a drive bay let alone an actual optical drive - I settled for dvd-multi drive and I may or may not upgrade to a Blu-ray burner in the future.

Win 8.1 with Classic Start installed feels pretty much the same as 7.
