Nudist hotel on Mallorca to double in size

A naturist hotel in Mallorca is expanding following a boom in British travellers opting to spend their holidays in their birthday suits.
Skinny Dippers Mallorca, a boutique hotel operated by Briton Grant Hodges and his Spanish partner Jordi, has had to move to new premises due to soaring demand, after it became fully booked for the entire summer season.

The luxurious retreat, located just inland from well-known nudist beach Es Trenc, is moving to premises next door to expand from a five-room to a 12-room hotel - and it is already fully booked for June 2014.


"This year we have had 95 per cent repeat bookings," Mr Hodges told MailOnline Travel. "As people were leaving last year, they booked in for this year. We're completely full from April to the end of September as well as for next June."






Mr Hodges attributes the hotel's popularity to its relaxed atmosphere and boutique offering, which is a world away from the "playing tennis and jumping around" image that used to be associated with naturism.

And contrary to the belief that Britons are more prudish than their Northern European counterparts, 70 to 80 per cent of the holidaymakers are Skinny Dippers are from the UK.


Mr Hodges says that Mallorca is the ideal destination for naturists.
"There are lots and lots of naturist beaches on the island and the locals are very open-minded to accept tourists - they are very tolerant. If you take your clothes off on a remote quiet beach, nobody really cares," he explains.

t seems that Skinny Dippers isn't the only resort seeing a surge in popularity. Plenty of hotels are keen to jump on the bandwagon and cater for the naturist market, which is largely made up of couples in their forties and fifties.
Andrew Welch, spokesperson for the organisation British Naturism, said: "Millions of people around the world are doing it and naturism is expanding all the time.
"Attitudes are changing and the internet has given people access to information. You no longer have to go to the library and order a book, just search online and you can find plenty of places to go.


"We have also found that people in general have become more enlightened about these things."
Mr Welch said the organisation has been approached by a lot of resorts around the world keen to cater for the nudist market either full or part-time.

"Cambiumbene is a new British-owned naturist resort that is being developed in the Dominican Republic, and we've had recent enquiries from a lot of smaller places which are perfect for the naturist community as they are beautiful and intimate. We recently spoke to a B&B in Tuscany and a hotel on Rhodes.
"Other resorts like to offer naturists weeks, such as one hotel in Fuerteventura which caters for naturists for about three months of the year."
Mainstream companies are also keen on attracting naturists, with Essentially Prestige currently investigating naturist hotels in Croatia to add to its next brochure.
The company is also looking to offer seven-night naturist cruises from next summer, sailing from Opatija or Split in June and September to explore the Adriatic coast.
