Vinyl records
« on: July 15, 2013, 07:23:23 pm »
How many people out there collect vinyl records? If so, who are your favorite artists/records. My favorite record was the 2012 record store day release of the Dazed and Confused soundtrack. Other than that I love Sticky Fingers-Rolling Stones and best of the Ventures. My favorite 45 rpm single is Red Hot Chili Peppers - Snow (Hey Oh) / Funny Face on a picturedisc. How about you guys?

I've started collecting vinyl for the last 6 months. It's building slowly. Some of my favourites are: Van Morrison Moondance, Pink Floyd Wish You Were Here, Fleetwood Mac Rumors, The Band The Last Waltz. Growing up with MP3 CDs and iPods, it's nice to go back to listening to the whole album opposed to just the singles.

Wow! I really dig your taste in music. I've been wanting to get my hands on an original copy of Wish You Were Here for a while now. Rock on!

Thanks! eBay isn't bad for vinyl, but you pay a bit more than a local retailer

The shipping always gets me ($).
How do you ship vinyl safely?

One assumes that the Columbia Record Club did it quite safely by the tens of thousands every day.  My uncle tells me that they used stiff cardboard mailers.

Yeah stuff cardboard mailers is how I've received records in the past when ordering by mail.

A few months ago I was given an amazing collection of 1960s and 1970s vinyl by by gf's uncle.  There were some amazing singles, including a lot of Motown stuff, Otis Redding, Satisfaction by the Rolling Stones, Sunshine of Your Love by Cream...

I am not sure whether to keep them, or try and sell them?  On the one hand, it's an amazing collection, but on the other hand, I don't even have the means to play them, and we need the money...

I love vinyl.   Provided you have a decent stereo system, vinyl (when done right), will almost always sound more natural than its digital counterpart.

I've been collecting Vinyl for the past yeah.  They're mostly Hip-Hop but I have one Smiths' Album, "The Queen is Dead".  My favourite would by "mm.. Food" by MF DOOM and I'm keen to pick up a Vinyl copy of Nirvana's "Nevermind" as well.
