Are the days of "skimpy" barmaids over as Australian pub banishes the topless barmaid?
A PUB in the Australian outback has been fined £1800 after a barmaid served up drinks completely naked.
Authorities fined the Bedford Arms pub in the town of Brookton, Western Australia (WA), for breaching its licence conditions.
They argued the barmaid in question slowly removed her nipple tassels and was seen fully naked.Police told WA's liquor commission:
"It was observed in the bar area of the licensed premises a skimpy barmaid who was not wearing a bra top and had her nipples covered with pastiesAnd of course, that makes her nude and obscene. Are we sure this is not in America?
"On a couple of occasions she removed either one of the pasties revealing her nipples."At a later time in the evening she appeared completely naked."
However the hotel's licensee, Gregory William Marr, has expressed his annoyance at the barmaid, claiming she was recruited through an external entertainment agency and was clearly told to "keep it clean, keep it legal".
The incident has sparked a debate over whether the days of "hard-drinking and women" are over in Australia.
Ron Yuryevich, the mayor of Western Australian town Kalgoorlie, has said the days of "skimpy" barmaids are a thing of the past.
"Outside every pub there were billboards advertising the skimpy's name, and happy hours and whatever else," he said to ABC.
"That's all changed. You don't see that now.
"It was very much a hard drinking culture - wine, women and other things."
"Skimpies" are not only seen in Australia, the American restaurant chain Hooters is famous for employing attractive, young waitresses who are known as "Hooter Girls".
I think perhaps the Aussies are too uptight. The Czechs certainly aren't!
