Online gaming meetups - PC gaming networks
« on: March 18, 2012, 11:52:51 am »
By Nudielad's age-old  suggestion, this is a speciality meetup thread to help find people to play online PC games with. This includes games with individual online features as well as networks such as Steam which facilitate online multiplayer gaming on the PC.
The standard contact-making rules apply:
  • List the games and/or gaming networks (e.g. Steam) you are on that you want to share with IYNO members. If you play a game over a certain network, list it under that network.
  • Do not post your actual account info as per forum rule 3.
  • If you want to exchange account info, drop the person you want to share it with a PM and ask them.
  • If someone has conditions for the people he wants to play with, respect them.
  • If you post no conditions, it is assumed that anyone can contact you about that game. You are of course free to accept or deny any such request.
  • There will be no official IYNO group on game networks. Unofficial groups are fine and we might advertise them.
There is an IYNO member group on Steam, run by member MounatinHiker. Thread Group

An example list, as well as my personal entry, would be the following:

Steam:
 - Team Fortress 2
 - Portal 2 (only for people that I have been in personal contact with, please)

I hijacked an old post of mine as the opener to get all PC-only posts from the unsorted thread in here. This is part of the original message, and the advice still stands. The quoted post is in another thread now, though. Mixed posts could not be merged in, so they will have to be redone or kept in the unsorted thread.
well if you have a ps3, the Killzone 3 multiplayer portion is going free to play :) there is now no excuse for not having the same games :P :345678

And if you have a PC, Team Fortress 2 has gone free months ago.

Please send me a message on the forum before contacting me over IM. For best results, also mention what you want to talk about, I am not much of a smalltalker.

All on Steam:

Left for Dead 2
Counter-Strike
Day of Defeat source
Team Fortress 2
Pay day : The heist
Portal 2
Borderlands (need to reinstall it)
Empire total war

I play Left For Dead 2 most evenings. Occasionally CS (Used to play it a lot more but have been playing it since 2001). I've only played one level on Pay day and not on-line yet. I expect it will be a frustrating experience as people will keep kicking me.

A gaming network run by half-life developer VALVE, notable for awesome deals at least twice a year and the content delivery system's DRM being as benign as it gets. Main platform is PC (win/mac), though some services are also offered on the PS3 and Smartphones.

In the last few days there's been news about work being carried out to port it to Linux. They showed a screen shot of Left for Dead 2 running under Linux. I do hope so.

I frequent a small Minecraft server. Up to 8 people; that kinda thing. It's not mine so while the owner has endowed me with all the same privileges that she has herself, I never feel the right to give out privileges as well to newcomers. It's just not my server, no matter how well I know the person trying to join. But if you're great with Minecraft and you think you could help build a small, good-looking city that wouldn't stretch the map too much, we'd really like to see some fresh faces and new talent. We've already had to build a prison for the people who have griefed the place like crazy, so you'd have to prove yourself, but it's still a very nice community with fun people (despite our dark senses or humor. Something to get used to :D) and we already have a vent set up for easy communication where you'd be more than welcome. If you're interested in joining, I'd really love to see what you're capable of. PM me and hopefully I can get the owner to give you the privileges you need. She's a great friend, so it wouldn't take too much. Hopefully I'll see you there :)

Battlefield p4f isn't very good with the social side of gaming.

Planetside 2 has released (if anyone's PC can handle it that is), you could fit everyone on this whole forum in a single server
