Me!  :cheesy:  :323232. I've been a heavy metal fan for many, many years. I mostly like old school metal, and classic thrash metal. Do you have any favorite metal bands? \m/

Wow! You are so lucky to go there. A lot of the power metals bands have played there. Take pics and vids if you can and share them with us all.

I'm a big time 80's metal fan..... Priest, Ozzy, Iron Maiden, all that..... some of the crap that's out there nowadays makes me want to puke.....

Yeah I'm also a lot in to the classic metal bands from the 80's. Glam, Thrash, traditional classic. I saw Megadeth, last month. They so rocked!   :323232

So maybe a contentious opinion, but I'm interested to hear your views - a lot of my metalhead mates draw the distinction between those who like metal because of the culture/"scene"/dress-sense/attitudes towards life and the world etc., and those who like metal because of the technical skill/song composition and the like.

I think there's obviously a lot of crossover between the two, and if you like one then you're likely to identify with the other as well, but I can definitely think of friends I know who either love the music but don't conform to the image, or love the culture but actually don't have too deep an interest in the music.

Anyone noticed similar? Or do you think it's an issue made out of nothing?

Used to be in an instrumental metal band as well, I like the track, what do you play Ryan?

Thanks man! I'm the clean vocalist and bassist. Our EP is coming out in april. And with regards to the scene, I know a lot of people who listen to metal but they don't want anyone to know that they do because of how it's portrayed by mainstream media. Like with the Grammys on sunday, I loved the fact that Metallica played with all the other acts. And people loved it! But with regards to how people act in the scene is really stupid if you ask me. The stereotypical scene person owns only band shirts, is suicidal, has a bright hair color and obsesses over how hot the frontman is. That's a cry for attention and I know people like that too. I own band shirts, but i don't consider myself to be like that. As a musician and from a musical perspective, today's bands are very recycled. Everyone plays in drop c and is either a copycat of blessthefall or Of Mice & Men. What I try to do is to create something that is new and fresh and my hope is that one day people will notice. But right now, all people want is the same shit. To sum up my rant, if the music's good, all the more power to you to support them.

So metal fans, anyone picked up any new music?

My latest purchase is Iced Earth's "Plagues of Babylon".  This record is a good one.  The first half of it is heavy, dark, and brutal, all based on a concept.  The other half of the record might have some difficulty getting over with some people because it tends to be a bit more mellower in tone.  But I enjoyed it through and through.
