Decided I would post something. I just took this photo on my phone and did a little editing, but I'm happy with how it turned out.
This is looking into the front of the CFM56 turbofan engine, which powers the Boeing 737 that I fly. Rated at 27,000 lb of thrust, it will consume just under a gallon of jet fuel every 2 seconds at max rated power.
A few days ago we were getting ready to depart just shortly after sunrise. The airplane was parked in a manner that the sun was rising directly behind the airplane, and the light was filtering through the rear turbine blades, giving a very aesthetic glow on the front side. First time I've been able to capture a photo like this, as the placement and timing (two things largely out of our control) has to be just perfect to get the effect.
I am actually considering having a print of this photo made to place on my wall somewhere.
