Go old school.  Watch some of the old BBC Dramas like Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy.  Alec Guinness on top form and le Carre has even gone on record saying that Guinness is George Smiley.  Far far far better than the movie.  It goes along like a glacier but is sooo worth it.
