I think Star Trek would still be alive and thriving today[1] if only JMS's reboot plan had been accepted instead of going with Enterprise.

If you are a Trekkie, read the proposal so you can rage with me at Paramount for turning it down: http://bztv.typepad.com/newsviews/files/ST2004Reboot.pdf

1: There are still movies called Star Trek produced, and they are okay action flicks but have nothing to do with the spirit Star Trek was built upon.

Yeah but all the movies have been like that.  All of them have been action movies first. I think some  (undiscovered country, final frontier) retain some of the series' themes of acceptance and hope for the future but mostly they are just about beating up the bad guy.

The old movies have much more depth than the new ones. J.J Abrams is a writer that has as much depth to his writing as Michael Bay.

I totally dissagree with that. Robert orci and jj develop their chatacters far more than michael bay ever does. Bays films are totally one dimensional and shallow. Jj's plot's may be llinear but they are driven by character,  not cg explosions.

I'm a massive Trekki! My favourite Character is Quark, so much so that at this very moment (within 3meters of where I am sitting) I have print of him signed by Armen Shimmerman. Although Picard does hold a special place in my heart :) Favourite series is obviously DS9.  :63424

I have a Shatner autographed pic. I'll post a picture when I am home. At grandma's house for summer, but am going back down this weekend. I'll post a photo then

Only if you compare Abrams series with Bay films. Abrams films have shallow characters too.

Just look at his Star Trek films, had you not known those characters had some depth from knowing them in advance, you wouldn't have noticed.

Now you say it. Probably.  I have always thought that the performances were great because of their relation to the originals. If I hadn't seen the originals I may not think that because the only one given a proper past in comparison to his prime self is kirk.
