Northern Ireland nudists called sex offenders
« on: July 30, 2014, 10:45:36 pm »
I saw an article today in the Newspaper about two Northern Ireland male naturists who after going for a skinny dip, came out of the water to be threatened by Police to be put on a sex criminal list because they were endangering children! Even though I live on the opposite side of the world, in NZ, I truly feel for all the Northern Ireland naturists. Shocking treatment by the Police! Here's a link to the article http://www.thetimes.co.uk/tto/news/uk/article4161400.ece

One more argument to get rid of the sex offender registry.

The only kind of registry that an argument can be made for IMHO is a violent offender registry. If you never attacked anyone (sexually or otherwise), then you aren't a threat to your surrounding.

There are some very intolerant and right-wing attitudes among certain sections of the Northern Ireland community.
The same attitude leads to a lot of racism.

crazy!! heres a nice response to that story from the guardian:
http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2014/jul/30/skinny-dipping-is-not-a-crime-swimming-naked-dive-in

That a great article, nice response. I'm amazed how ultra conservative the NI Police are! Here in NZ we don't even have a sex offenders register

Yes a great follow up article. It's interesting that it has 666 comments at the moment!

This is a very accurate summation. sadly

*ducks*

On a more serious note, that's a pretty crap thing to happen, although it doesn't surprise me at all - I think exactly the same thing would happen in mainland UK. The Guardian article and picture are both fabulous, though :)

I'm a frequent Skinny Dipper, and from Northern Ireland! I probably skinny dip once a week, with some friends. Been found by the police once before, but never had a problem! Though  I'm fairly sure he was checking me out haha But we're not all so conservative, I promise!

It's good to know you can do it, maybe this event was just a once off?? Or maybe the facts of the case show the guys were being indecent... At least skinny dipping isn't totally banned!
