WE SAY: Butt out and let the nudists be free
« on: September 05, 2014, 04:01:10 pm »
From the local paper in Noosa and Sunshine Coast

OUR VIEW: IT IS all very well to call for public debate over nude beaches, but will it really solve anything at Noosa National Park's Alexandria Bay?
Known as A-Bay to those who surf and sun themselves in the area, the beach has been a nudist haven for more than 40 years.
Tucked away in the middle of the national park's coastal walk, and quite a hike from the suburban hubbub both north and south of it, A-Bay was perfect.

RELATED: It's 2014: Lawyer says time for legal nude beaches

A secluded, quiet, pristine beach with consistently good surf.

So how did a man, who obviously thought he was doing nothing wrong, end up getting charged and convicted with wilful exposure?
The bare fact is, more and more people - families - are walking through the park.

And, apparently, some naturists are indulging their passion for the pastime in walks away from the beach.

That is a prescription for disaster.

A-Bay should remain a beach for those who wish to enjoy nature to the fullest.

But it will have to become a designated beach - well signposted to warn those who do not wish to witness such pursuits.

And nudists have to know the beach's boundaries - and theirs.

In the end, it does not come down to social expectations, the law or any individual's rights. It comes down to common sense.

I totally agree with the last sentence. Common sense is the key:

In the end, it does not come down to social expectations, the law or any individual's rights. It comes down to common sense.

From the pictere (btw, what an incredible beach!), it's clear that the beach is isolated enough so that nobody can arrive there just by chance. With a few signs in the right places, everybody will know that you could encounter nude people there.

But if we ask for specific places for nudism, we have the accept that it is not allowed in the rest of the area. Not that I think it is fair to be charged for that, but at least you should expect to have a chat with the police.

I know that laws are usually very restrictive for naturists, but we have to respect them in order other respect our (few) rights. This is a long battle, and we have to gain places for us step by step. A wrong move can only be detrimental for us.

Always love to see a picture of my local beach.

How did this come to some one up on charges?  Well it seems at least one naked person was indulging the passion well away from the beach and the Police had to react.  There also seems to be a more obvious presence of swingers in the past few weeks, though it has been winter so this may have been planned and without the summer crowds the naked for sex were probably just more obvious.

Anyway, naked people away from the beach caused complaint, police come and walk into the dunes and see a few people naked approach the first guy they see and he loses the plot and finds himself arrested.  The others immediately dress and police depart with victim.

Goes to court and the magistrate asks "How do you plead?"

Not guilty comes the response

Magistrate asks "Were you naked?"

Defendant says "Yes"

Magistrate says "I find you guilty, 90 day good behaviour bond."

A purely administrative process and society is protected forever.

The defendants lawyer was poorly prepared, the defendant poor advised, the Police over zealous and the Magistrate looking to clear the sheet for the day.

I wonder what the Police will do the first warm Saturday when there are 300 naked people on the beach?

I seriously think that society needs to grow up.  Nudity doesn't kill, harm or injure anyone.  If nudists/naturists want to nude up on the tracks, that should be their right to do so.  Their bodies belong to them, not the state.

If the guy was behaving in a sexual manner whilst publicly nude, then he deserved to be arrested and fined.
"How ridiculous society is! Why be given a body if you have to shut it away like a rare, rare fiddle?"

hum well it seems the next minority to be targeted by obeying the law near the line will be nudist as people have been arrested in their homes for walking by a window naked, I hope that this stuff will end before it's the next academic by dirty cops (no pun intended)
