Cops misled me into pleading guilty, nudist says
« on: March 30, 2015, 12:41:15 am »
Singaporean Albert Yam says he lost weight in prison and that the experience left him depressed, sick and no longer fit enough to run marathons.

SINGAPORE: Albert Yam Kam Hoong, the nudist from Singapore behind the controversy in Penang last year, has no regrets being a nudist. Naturism is another name for nudism.

However, he has a few regrets, he told the New Paper on Sunday in Singapore.

He regrets surrendering to the Malaysian police for staging a nudist event in Penang, Nude Sports Games 2014, and for uploading videos of the event onto a Vimeo video sharing site. The videos were met with outrage from Malaysian politicians.

The videos, he added, were for promoting another event in Singapore in December but which had to be cancelled.

“I regret doing it in Malaysia. If it was done in Thailand or Indonesia, there would be no problem at all,” said Yam whose health has suffered from a seven-month jail sentence including for possession and distribution of pornographic material besides obscenity. “I have lost weight, I am depressed, and no longer have the fitness to run in marathons. I took up nudity for its natural benefits.”

Yam, the de facto leader of SgNudClub a Yahoo online group for local naturists who was released on December 26, said police misled him into pleading guilty. “They gave me the short end of the stick after telling me that it was a minor offence and that surrendering would help my plea,” said Yam whose seven other “comrades in crime” received one-month jail sentences for obscenity.

“It was horrible being in prison. They put the sick ones with the healthy prisoners. There were cases of scurvy. I didn’t expect so much jail time. I suffered a lot there.”

The videos show the members painting each other’s bodies, dancing and rolling over one another. “I had uploaded other videos before and never got into trouble,” said Yam.

People who did not know about his activities now shun him.
