The White House Club in leafy Surrey has 300 members who regularly enjoy the grounds of their five-acre paradise. But now a new development could overlook them

A nudist club's members are covered in goose pimples - they're nervous they will be spied on from a nearby block of flats.  There are no prickly bushes to hide behind to conceal their nakedness from people spying on them from the high-rise block at Warlingham, Surrey.  Nudists bouncing about as they lob the ball over the net in a game of tennis on the White House Club's courts will be particularly visible from the top floors of the flats proposed for a nearby road.  The 300 members regularly relax in their birthday suits, enjoying the leafy grounds of their five-acre paradise.  • Meet the naked estate agent  But their fun has been ruined at the prospect of everything being exposed, as it were, to people overlooking them from the five blocks of four-storey flats.
The club has a membership ranging in age from two to 90 and counts the likes of nurses, teachers and electricians among its ranks.

David Mason, one of the directors, said: "This has for many years been a naturist club - we celebrated our 80th anniversary in 2013. It is a haven of peace in the neighbourhood.
"We are concerned about this development, and the potential for overlooking of our club grounds, and especially of our tennis courts, which are situated in a corner of our property immediately across from the proposed developments in question."
He said that if planning consent is given by Tandridge District Council, it should be on the condition that any windows from which the club's grounds are visible are frosted glass and can only be opened via a small window at the top.
The proposal would involve demolishing four houses to make way for 36 flats and 40 parking spaces.
The number of proposed parking spaces would be inadequate, he said.

"This has for many years been a naturist club - we celebrated our 80th anniversary in 2013. It is a haven of peace in the neighbourhood."   One of the directors      White House made similar objections five years ago over a plan to demolish the nearby three-storey Whyteleafe House to make way for a high-rise complex of 167 flats.
The council eventually granted planning permission in 2011, although that development has not yet gone ahead.

Alan Gunne-Jones, an agent for Aventier Limited, the developers behind the latest scheme, said landscaping would be incorporated into the development.
The existing woodland area adjoining the proposed site would not be affected by the construction, he said.
In a letter to the council, he said: "Given that the site currently consists of residential properties and garages, it constitutes brownfield land."
A council spokesman said the nudist club's worries would be aired when the planning committee meets to discuss whether to grant consent for the flats.

I did at one point think about joining here.  But the fee was very expensive. But lets just hope that they can stay within their own private world of peace and tranquility.  They are not hurting anyone.  Like I say the only people who normally moan are the ones deliberately using binoculars to spy on the ones minding their own business.
