Australian Open 2016
« on: January 18, 2016, 06:57:40 pm »
As a big tennis fan, I start new topic about the already begun Australian Open! There's something about this particular Grand Slam tournament that makes it special to watch for me:

First of all, it's held in the coldest time of winter in Poland, it's usually snowy and constantly frosty here (no exception right now) while it's always the middle of a hot as hell Australian summer in Melbourne that time. Additional contrast is that most of the matches played at AO are at night, my local time. So when I'm watching the games, there's the funny, big difference between the view from my window (dark, windy and minus something) and what the screen of my notebbok shows (40 degrees Celsius and the players still playing world class tennis in it!), it makes me wanna teleport to Arthur Ashe Arena :-D

Second thing, it's the first great tournament after two months of a pause. I'm really looking forward to it's beginning as every January comes. Already spent most of the night watching tennis, despite the examination session I'm in the middle of right now LOL.

Any other tennis fans here? Or, as far as we have a lot of Australians here, maybe any of you plan to attend a match in Melbourne?

Well, no tennis fans in here as I can see :-P

Absolutely STUNNED today by Verdasco's performance against Nadal! He literally threw Rafael out of the court in the decider. Pleased to watch such great tennis of the older of those Spaniards.

Sad that Nadal is out though! He hasnt had the best run the last few years.. Hopefully he's back at the top of his game soon.

@Brendan212 I don't know if he gets off the ground again after what's happened to his game, well maybe during his favourite clay-court season.

How stunning is Raonic playing, he has his "five minutes" in this season's beggining. I predict an easy win for him over Monfils today and he might also cause a lot of problems for Murray in a very probable SF setting of Andy vs Milos.

I'm more than excited to watch Fed vs Nole Semi! For sure I won't miss it, even if it's at 4 am my time lol

Finals were not interesting, even though I am a fan of Djokovic.
I think that he will win all grand slam this year.
however, women's finals was interesting

I agree that last year's final wasn't too interesting, but today's final was HELLA GREAT! It depends on the players - for me, the greatest rivalry of all times is Federer - Nadal. And matches between Djokovic and Murray, compared to the better part of the Big Four, are simply boring.
