Your 3 Favourite Films of 2009
« on: December 23, 2009, 06:09:07 pm »
2009 has been a good year for movies, as most blockbusters havent dissapointed and there has been a steady flow of good movies each week, on average

So what are your top 3 for the year?

Mine are:
1 - Star Trek
2 - The Hangover
3 - Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince/District 9

Star trek and hangover are definitely up there.  I am going to Avatar tonight so I am sure that will be on there.

I liked Transformers II and 500 Days of Summer, so I'll throw them in.

Avatar, Star Trek & Watchmen

Saw Avatar again today. To blazes with anyone who says the plot is simple. There are a mass of metaphors in there and everyone is complete and free standing. It has 9/11, the extermination of indigenous populations, the Iraq War and a pagan/environmental metaphor deeper and more beautifully expressed than I have ever seen and each of these themes are explored to their natural conclusion. From the corporate guy who cuts the feed when it gets messy (just like the news channels during war) to the total immersion in the middle of a 3D 9/11 type catastrophe to the interconnectedness of the whole eco-system, it is perfectly written.

And yes, I still cried when mother nature herself kicked ass. I don't think I'll ever not cry at that scene.

On further reflection, I'd like to knock Watchmen off my number 3 slot and replace it with In the Loop. One of the funniest films ever.
