I only know one song with the word "mendacity" in the lyrics.  Now, I know two.

Quand on verra dans le miroir
Nos faces ridées pleines d’histoires
Quand on en aura moins devant
Qu’on en a maintenant
Quand on aura enfin du temps
Et qu’on vivra tranquillement
Quand la maison sera payée
Qu’y restera plus rien qu’à s’aimer
On va s’aimer encore

On va s'aimer encore is by Vincent Vallière, a Québécois singer.  This first verse sets the stage by saying that our wrinkled, story-telling faces...with more years behind than ahead...we'll live quietly...the house us paid...there's nothing left to do but love each other and we will continue to love each other.

It's quite meaningful as bith my wife and I feel that this song captures the strength of our relationship and marriage.

You probably heard Lisa Gerrard (Dead Can Dance) before. Seen Gladiator? She composed the score together with Hans Zimmer

No wonder I loved that Gladiator music.

Now I've just discovered "Rakim" by Brendan Perry and Lisa Gerrard.

The best songwriter in Canada just passed this last week. Gord Downey from the Tragically Hip had the best songs.

I don't want to hate you
I don't want to take you.
But I don't want to be the one to cry.

Sometimes love just ain't enough.

Cold wind blows, I am shivering
My body? aches as my heart is breaking
Why is life making me hollow?
Why is happiness casting me in the shadows?
In the shadows.

Hold on, dont turn and walk away
Save me
And I cried these words but nobody came

Im all alone, running scared
Losing my way in the dark
I tried to get up, stand on a prayer
But I keep crashing down hard
This is my side of the story
Only my side of the story
Nobody cares, nobodys? there, no one will hear
My side of the story
Have fun and don't let every small thing get to you.

Here are a few samples from songs I like

Vamps - Vampire's Love:

The dazzling smile
Was just beyond my reach
How sweet and innocent you were

If I could cross my night into the sun
All my words to you
I still wonder what I'd say

Stray dream of you
Lights the chain of stars to find the way
In the darkest night of my lost and frozen heart
Long ago

Dir en Grey - Glass Skin:

The bells of reality rings out loudly from down deep within
And disappears along with all the wind

Billy Talent - Saint Veronica:

And while the angels sleep
All of the devils are awake
Waiting to steal your love
Right outside of Heaven's gate
And all the sacred hearts
Can't numb the feeling from the pain
Cause when the drugs don't work
You're gonna curse His holy name

The Cure - A Strange Day:

And the sand
And the sea grows
I close my eyes
Move slowly through drowning waves
Going away
On a strange day
It's only forever. Not long at all.

The Crow, The Owl And The Dove by Nightwish

Don't give me love, don't give me faith
Wisdom nor pride, give innocence instead
Don't give me love, I've had my share
Beauty nor rest, give me truth instead

A crow flew to me, kept it's distance
Such a proud creation
I saw it's soul, envied it's pride
But needed nothing it had

An owl came to me, old and wise
Pierced right through my youth
I learned it's ways, envied it's sense
But needed nothing it had

Don't give me love, don't give me faith
Wisdom nor pride, give innocence instead
Don't give me love, I've had my share
Beauty nor rest, give me truth instead

A dove came to me, had no fear
It rested on my arm
I touched it's calm, envied it's love
But needed nothing it had

A swan of white, she came to me
The lake mirrored her beauty sweet
I kissed her neck, adored her grace
But needed nothing she could give

[This next part is in Cumbric, a dead Celtic language.]
Gar tuht river, Ger te rheged
Gar tuht river, Ger te rheged
Gar tuht river, Ger te rheged

Don't give me love, don't give me faith
Wisdom nor pride, give innocence instead
Don't give me love, I've had my share
Beauty nor rest, give me truth instead
A secret's ever safely placed with honest folk and leal;
And secrets trusted unto me are in a locked-up house
Whose keys are lost and on whose door is set the Cadi's seal.

Joshua Kadison is a brilliant storyteller. Here's a couple of his songs.

Paris

Ezra was an old man
He lived by the sea
Watchin' himself gettin' older
With no Family
And Cassie was a pretty one
A bartender by trade
She had a daughter with big green eyes
She called her Jade
They met each other in the park
While Jade was on a swing
On a bench underneath a tree
They talked about everything
And she said, Sometimes I get so scared
But I don't know why
She reached for the old man's hand
And she began to cry
And he said
It ain't no crime,It ain't no crime...
Everybody gets a little bit lonely sometimes
It ain't no crime, It ain't no crime...
Everybody gets a little bit loney sometimes

Then he said...
I was gonna be a painter
Gonna paint my masterpeice
I spent my whole life dreamin'
Now they're my only memories
And I was gonna live in Paris, France
Now my body's fallin' apart
I could be Pablo Picasso if Dillusion were in art
And she said
"That sounds lovely...Paris, France
Just sayin' those words
Kinda makes me wanna dance
Do you wanna dance?"

It ain't no crime,It ain't no crime...
Everybody gets a little bit lonely sometimes
It ain't no crime, It ain't no crime...
Everybody gets a little bit loney sometimes

They'd meet there every Sunday
In the park at noon
Ezra would get there early
To buy Jade a red balloon
And Cassie'd tell him all about
Her awful luck with men
She's say, "Wish I could find a guy like you
But they'll never make you again."
And Jade would fall asleep on Ezra's lap
There in the park
While Cassie'd still be talkin' a long time after dark

Everybody gets a little bit loney sometimes

One Sunday afternoon
No Ezra, no red balloon
Just a friend of his who said
"Ezra Passed Away
And he wanted me to bring this letter to you today."
Well it was 2 tickets to Paris and a note that read
'Thank you for the dance...
My dearest Cassie
You were my Paris, France.'

Carousel Horses

Lost, lost, all of them lost
They must have made the river
But how could they have crossed
The painted horses from the carousel ride
All of them gone

Lost, lost, all of them lost
They must have made the river
But how could they have crossed
The painted horses from my carousel ride
They must have carried on

And the crazy lady on the bench
Always looking out to sea
Says she saw them get away
She saw them running free
And she knows the reason why
But she swears she'll never tell
Some things are better left unsaid
About the carousel

And she saw their eyes burned golden
As they galloped wild into the dazzling sun
And doesn't it make you wonder
Does it make you wanna say goodbye
To the world you thought you knew
Doesn't it make you wonder
Or does it make you wanna close your eyes
And pretend it is untrue
Doesn't it make you wonder
Doesn't it make you wonder

Grace, grace, lady of grace
The ticket girl chanted in her Indian lace
Alone in the booth where there used to be lines
But now there's only faith
Grace, grace, lady of grace
The ticket girl chanted in an Indian lace
Alone in the booth where there used to be lines
Before they ran away

Shuttered doors flung open wide
Leaves were blowing all around
She just stood there mystified
By the hoof marks on the ground
Splintered poles and rusted nails
Jewelled bridles in the tide
Vestiges of old betrayals
From when the brass ring ruled the ride

And she heard their eyes burned golden
As they galopped wild into the dazzling sun
And doesn't it make you wonder
Does it make you wanna say goodbye
To the world you thought you knew
Doesn't it make you wonder
Or does it make you wanna close your eyes
And pretend it is untrue
Doesn't it make you wonder
Doesn't it make you wonder

Trying to finish this wild song
But who know where it ends
Those pleasure palace fugitives
Were never seen again
But the girl's still selling tickets
Since they fixed the carousel
There's a crazy lady on the bench
And those of us who still remember well
Those of us who still remember well

[Repeat chorus]
A secret's ever safely placed with honest folk and leal;
And secrets trusted unto me are in a locked-up house
Whose keys are lost and on whose door is set the Cadi's seal.

Sing for the Moment - Eminem

They say music can alter moods and talk to you
Well can it load a gun up for you and cock it too?
Well if it can, then the next time you assault a dude
Just tell the judge it was my fault, and I'll get sued
See what these kids do, is hear about us totin' pistols
And they want to get one, 'cus they think the shit's cool
Not knowin' we're really just protectin' ourselves
We entertainers, of course the shit's affecting ourselves
You ignoramus but music is reflection of self
We just explain it, and then we get our checks in the mail
It's fucked up ain't it, how we can come from practically nothin'
To bein' able to have any fuckin' thing that we wanted
That's why we sing for these kids that don't have a thing
Except for a dream and a fuckin' rap magazine
Who post pinup pictures on their walls all day long
Idolize they favorite rappers and know all they songs
Or for anyone who's ever been through shit in they lives
'Til they sit and they cry at night, wishing they die
'Til they throw on a rap record, and they sit and they vibe
We're nothing to you, but we're the fuckin' shit in their eyes
That's why we seize the moment, and try to freeze it and own it
Squeeze it and hold it, 'cause we consider these minutes golden
And maybe they'll admit it when we're gone
Just let our spirits live on, through our lyrics that you hear in our songs
And we can
Sing with it, sing for the years
(Sing it) Sing for the laughter, sing for the tears (come on)
Sing it with me, just for today,
Maybe tomorrow the good Lord will take you away

The song Homeless Brother by Don McLean

I was walking by the graveyard, late last Friday night
I heard somebody yelling, it sounded like a fight
It was just a drunken hobo dancing circles in the night
Pouring whiskey on the headstones in the blue moonlight
So often have I wondered where these homeless brothers go
Down in some hidden valley were their sorrows cannot show
Where the police cannot find them, where the wanted men can go
There's freedom when your walking, even though you're walking slow

Smash your bottle on a gravestone and live while you can
That homeless brother is my friend

It's hard to be a pack rat, it's hard to be a 'bo
But living's so much harder where the heartless people go
Somewhere the dogs are barking and the children seem to know
That Jesus on the highway was a lost hobo
And they hear the holy silence of the temples in the hill
And they see the ragged tatters as another kind of thrill
And they envy him the sunshine and they pity him the chill
And they're sad to do their living for some other kind of thrill

Smash your bottle on a gravestone and live while you can
That homeless brother is my friend

Somewhere there was a woman, somewhere there was a child
Somewhere there was a cottage where the marigolds grew wild
But some where's just like nowhere when you leave it for a while
You'll find the broken-hearted when you're travelling jungle-style
Down the bowels of a broken land where numbers live like men
Where those who keep their senses have them taken back again
Where the night stick cracks with crazy rage, where madmen don't
Pretend
Where wealth has no beginning and poverty no end

Smash your bottle on a gravestone and live while you can
That homeless brother is my friend

The ghosts of highway royalty have vanished in the night
The Whitman wanderer walking toward a glowing inner light
The children have grown older and the cops have gripped us tight
There's no spot round the melting pot for free men in their flight
And you who leave on promises and prosper as you please
The victim of your riches often dies of your disease
He can't hear the factory whistle, just the lonesome freight train's
Wheeze
He's living on good fortune, he ain't dying on his knees

Smash your bottle on a gravestone and live while you can
That homeless brother is my friend
That homeless brother is my friend
