I'm interested in it. The thing with BTC is that it keeps defying expert predictions but they currently have a clever business model in that for a lot of other cryptocurrencies, you have to buy Bitcoin first to then buy them. So the demand will remain as long as the demand for Bitcoin is sustained. The other interesting aspect is mining which requires a high short term investment but could yield high long term rewards, depending on the long term price of bitcoin and any gains during that period.

Im an avid investor in cryptocurrencies. Its hard to tell the price of BTC by the end of 2017 as the fork is closing in for segwit. I have a feeling after the fork many people will resort to Bitcoin cash.

I do a bit of trading overall to acquire more BTC. I do have some alt coins currently stored on my ledger nano S which i might sell after the fork depending on how much they increase

I have some holdings of BTC and ETH, plus some various alt-coins that have a promising outlook.

By the strictest measure of design, I gather that BTC is not as functionally intact as ETH, but it is extremely popular and is serving rather well as THE digital currency blazing its way into the future.

My only concern is how governments and institutions will respond to this phenomenon that could potentially endanger the fiat system of currency that has been around for centuries.

Well, that BTG segwit2x fork was pretty much a non-factor- or it's still too early to tell.

I tried my hand at day trading but crypto is so much more volatile than usual risk investments that I did get slightly burnt by it.  Thankfully, I was able to make a recovery from a BTC bull run shortly thereafter.

Having said that, I too have decided to utilize a Ledger Nano S and adopt a "HODL" approach for the core stack of my coins, and only migrate some to an exchange if I need to convert from one to another with absolute ease.

lol, Same here- I wish I had gotten into it way sooner.

I mean, I knew it was around- but it never dawned on me that it was a speculative investment opportunity with tremendous gain potential.

I completely agree. I believe more in ETH as something which might be adopted to transfer value and perhaps make some payments? BTC.... Well, maybe it will work as some sort of value storage. I dont believe the latter will work for payments because of two reasons: confirmation time and high transaction cost. Who is going to wait 15 minutes and pay some dollars to pay a couple dollars for a meal?

ETH on the other hand has a wide variety of appliances due to the DAPPS and its built-in capability to run programs, such as the smart contracts.

I read somewhere that once the Lightning Network and atomic swaps become available, it will dramatically will improve BTC's transaction time and costs.

However, I feel it seems more like a band-aid solution as this is several years late- in which ETH already incorporated some semblance of this into its own framework.  The inherent DAPP support and smart contract platform is just the cherry on the top of that sundae.

Don't get me wrong, I think BTC will last a few more decades at least, it's just that it's a fact of technology to see constant improvements made upon an original design.

I am thinking that we shouldn't see BTC and ETH as rivals- but rather complementary to one another in the near future.

Don't we all? The first time somebody online told me he kept all his money in bitcoin I laughed at him! All he said was, "You'll see".

I mostly hodl (Hold On for Dear Life) but I do trade a bit. With Ripple's surge last week I took out a bit so now all I have in it is profit.

The thing is that a lot of small time investors don't understand the difference and often don't even know how to access their extra coins after forks. So even though Bitcoin Cash has similar potential to Litecoin, Bitcoin's position as first to market still keeps it well ahead of the competition.

I can't really see a point for it but there's coins for all sorts of things now, speed, PoS, pilots, cities, jokes, so why not?

It would have no use case. If we wanted tp buy stuff we can just use Litecoin or Dash for example. There would be no need for a nudist coin
