Why Japanese Love to Bathe
« on: January 28, 2018, 08:43:52 am »

This video covers onsen and sento, Japanese words for different public baths.  From what I understand, Onsen refers to hot springs while Sento refers to simply hot water.  Beyond this video, despite this one being only remotely naturist related, has loads of information on Japanese culture.

Sadly will never really see this widespread in Western culture. Especially when you Google "bathhouses in America" and the first page (far as I got) is just about gay bathhouses for more hookups then actual bathing or bonding.

I have 1 friend I have washed with. It is usually taking a shower together but sometimes it is just being open to being in a bathroom at the same time. The thing I noticed is how different people wash. I have my routine and it is completely different from his. It just made things tough to coordinate. If anything we probably use more water than separately and it takes more time too, but it was still kind of fun.

I love onsens! My favorite local place to go is Kabuki spa in San Francisco. Unfortunately it’s not a place for families like the ones in Japan, but it’s great for what is in the US. I’m hoping to go this weekend. Last weekend I went to the Korean one across the street. It’s similar but much smaller.

I've actually been watching a few of their videos within these recent days, but it's all been about food.

I'd love to have onsen-type stuff near me except I'd fear they'd get all my money.  :happy

Looked it up and what a paradise. Shame about the bathing suit requirement on the co-ed days though.

You know if they've ever ditched the rule to see how it would go over? It's San Francisco, I bet plenty of people would be into it.

That would be disrespectful to the spa/communal bath and there is no reason to go on coed day. If I wanted to go to a spa with a woman I’d go to the Banya.
