Retrogaming
« on: May 03, 2018, 06:56:32 pm »
Hey all,

I never had any games consoles until I was ten (Gameboy/N64), and I now own a NES Mini, SNES Mini and a Sega Mega Drive (Genesis to Americans and Canadians) Mini.

Has anyone else gotten into older games despite having never played them at the time?

I played a lot on my Gameboy back in the days, mostly tetris and mariokart when it first came out on gameboy advanced.
Then i played some PS2 and had a Street Fighter Arcade game !

But right now, I admit that I left a bit and rather play "new" games

If I'm being honest I prefer modern games, since story is a main focus.

All depends on the game titles for me.

I have all the old school roms, and even though it's not the same as the console, I do occasionally enjoy firing up those games.

For awhile there, a friend of mine would frequently come over and we'd play a lot of BattleToads. Getting past the hover bike scene being the worst of all that.

And have the older Mario Parties and other titles like that.

I've really loved Steam adding some of the older N64 and PS1 titles to it's listing as well for all the fun nostalgia.

Modern games are very story driven and it can be a little jarring going back to the "save the Princess"-style games. It's a good change sometimes though.

My girlfriend got me a Super Famicom last summer, and I've been playing a lot of the classic Super Bomberman games on it. I also put my A Link to the Past PCB inside the Super Famicom cartridge case so I can play the game in English. Otherwise, I've also gotten the Nintendo Classic Mini Famicom, Super Famicom, and SNES. I really enjoy the old titles. Been playing more Final Fantasy VI than anything though. My N64 is kind of useless at the moment because it just looks terrible on an HD screen. I need to find a way to improve the picture quality on that system.

I still play my N64, Gameboys, and Game Cube a lot. I also have a SNES and an old ATARI 2600.

While I like the "bigger" more plot-involved modern games, I really like a lot of the indie games with retro-styling (BroForce, Nidhog, RetroCityRansom) as a quick, pick-up-and-play for a bit experience.  I'm a pretty causal gamer though, and will go months between playing games sometimes (and every once and awhile swing into binge mode and play every day after work for just as long).

Also, sometimes I just want to play Mario 3, that game is perfection.

Just got my Genesis deluxe in the mail yesterday. Pre-loaded with around 80 something games and I still have several of my old cartridges that can be used on it.

No regrets. Played for 2 hours straight and had a blast.

Is that the AtGames Mega Drive/Genesis that looks like a Mark I model?
