Another Documentary about Cap d'Agde
« on: August 04, 2018, 06:26:40 pm »
I recently discovered this report from CTV’s W5 from the 1980’s. For non-Canadians W5 is a news program sort of like CBS’s 60 Minutes. The name W5 refers to the five single word questsions starting with the letter “W” any news report should answer.

I was surprised when I saw this, for a couple of reasons. First, that I hadn’t seen this until now. And second, that it was apparently acceptable to show full frontal nudity on Canadian network tv, at least back in the 1980’s.

I'm not surprised to see frontal nudity in the 80s. Several reasons, firstly naturism was less visible by the population, secondly the media were not interested in the subject and especially the Internet didn't exist...

US TV might of had some influence also if other countries are likely New Zealand you are made aware on a regular basis of your ability to complain about content. Since broadcasters have found in certain countries that censused nudity gets less complaints than uncensored nudity they fall on the side of censoring

I can't help but think that my faint memories of the late 80's make me realise just how much more open minded and less worried people were when I was young.

What's with the last 30 seconds or so of that video anyway?
A secret's ever safely placed with honest folk and leal;
And secrets trusted unto me are in a locked-up house
Whose keys are lost and on whose door is set the Cadi's seal.

I've also noticed in Germany some networks censor and some don't in their reports on naturism

DE has a quite strong law especially in media.
No one under 18, must be blurred. Contestants in Germanys next topmodel must be blurred when under 18 and they do a nude shooting or something is visible by accident.
After 22:00 it's possible to show genitals (dicks must be less than 45° up).
btw, they are obliged to block access to catch up tv for shows before 22:00 that are marked FSK18 which means dangerous for under 18.

btw commercial tv is much more open to nudity than public service channels like ARD or ZDF.

Admittedly some of the reports I was talking about were ARD regional programmes I didn't look up the programmes so didn't know when they were originally shown so maybe the unblurred ones were just aired later.

 :laughing

I've heard of rules like this before, like the rumored "Mull of Kintyre test," but it doesn't make it any less hilarious.

depends definetely on the programm, guess brisant is more into that stuff but certain area of germany are more relaxed about boobies. depends always about the topic, a report about something where nude people are around its very likely to have nudity as well.

they are as stupid as the american peep of four letter words on tv.

I definitely don't think you'd see a report like this shown in the US, especially on a major network. The FCC is WAY too prudish. They fine people for even a few frames of nipples.
Almost always up to chat. Just ask.

Didn't see this vid until today. I guess even back in the 80s Canadian media were trying to differentiate themselves from the US and selling themselves off as more European lol.
