XFL
« on: March 10, 2020, 05:03:51 am »
What's everyone's thoughts on the XFL so far? I think it's a fun and enjoyable addition to football. While its talent is a little subpar compared to the NFL (obviously since the league is made up of second rate NFL players), the rule changes make it a much more exciting game! If it continues to do well and lasts, it could pick up better players, and then I'd say it has the potential to be better than the NFL.
Time will tell. Until then, I'll just enjoy it as a great alternative football league in the offseason.

If it wasn't for the time slot it was on (no major sports event happening right now till March Madness) XFL might be d.o.a. I still think it's pretty boring compared with the NFL but at least in the XFL there are some hilarious mic incidents. But I don't see this going on as long as the NFL with the injuries waiting to happen

It's definitely taking itself more seriously as a football league compared to its first incarnation in 2001.  I do like the kickoff setup and the extra point schemes are interesting.  Can do without the excessive sideline interviews during the game and hearing the coaches calling plays.  There are some teams that play in NFL stadiums and really should get out of them.  Kinda depressing seeing only one level of seats being filled.

Even though it is much more watchable than its 2001 incarnation, I am still skeptical it will have a second season with ratings declining week after week.  I do believe it will finish its season, unlike the Alliance of American Football (AAF) last year.  The future from my standpoint is uncertain.

The XFL was off to a good start until COVID shut them down and not it doesn’t look like they are going to be back in 2021. I attended both of the games in St. Louis and was pretty impressed the league had a few bumps but I think had they been able to play out the season it could have been something really good.
