Picard season two begins! I've not seen it yet but will do later today. Opening scene looks promising though

Just finished it.  In a word, awesome. We finally get some proper post nemesis/ds9/voyager Starfleet...including finally seeing the Sovereign class onscreen in something other than the TNG movies. Story is solid, characters look settled. Looking forward to the rest of the season

Great, now I'm looking forward to watching it and less nervous!

Season 3 trailer with some classic TNG villains and Enterprise F seems to be making its TV debut

I loved it! And the soundtrack is awesome!

I forgot about this topic. So far it's mostly good but the recurring star fleet is compromised theme and bringing back old favourite characters to kill them is as tiresome as ever. What are your thoughts and feelings? Wish they'd reunited the next gen crew earlier as the damn season is almost over already!

I've never really watched any Star Trek. Where should I start?

I never really watched it either but I enjoyed the new movies and then found Discovery. A lot of people say to start at next generation. I get confused with all of the time jumps!

I started with TNG, but keep in mind that the first couple seasons are more bad than good, it's a bit of a time investment to get into it. Starting with the movies is also not a bad idea.

Personally not a fan of the reboot movie trilogy. Decent generic sci-fi, but not really representative of what Star Trek is.

I think the best movies to get started on are probably the Genesis trilogy. Wrath of Khan, Search for Spock, Voyage Home. Afterwards, Undiscovered Country. That should cover the good Kirk movies, which is where I feel Star Trek really became what it was through the peak of its run. Movies 1 and 5 are more supplementary material for the die-hard fans, they are just not that good. 1 is a long-outdated visual effects showcase with poor pacing, and 5 is basically a Mary Sue fic directed by Kirk's actor.

Afterwards, I agree that TNG is a good choice. Due to its very episodic nature, it is very possible to just pick some highly-rated episodes to get going with instead of just watching it front-to-back. Might even be recommendable to watch a few fan favorites to get some good impressions. The first two seasons were by far the roughest, so starting out with that gives you something that is not really representative of what the show can be at its best.

I would look it up by the timeline, apart from the animated series 😅

Oh yikes that's a difficult one with almost 60 years for you to catch up on. Next generation was my starting point but back then you only had that show and repeats of the original series. Try next generation first (pilot episodes encounter at farpoint pt 1&2) but mix it up a bit and watch episodes of the original series in between because they do make references to the past show.

It wasn't terrible just felt a bit off to me seeing such an old picard

I know it felt a little depressing to me seeing them all and thinking where have the years gone? It was good to have him and the rest of the crew back in the end just wish it was longer or that next generation could have gone on forever

Same it would have been fun to see them work together for a bit longer then they did in Picard I also noticed a few continuity mistakes along the way but that's really minor stuff
