I love hip hop but, at the risk of sounding like an old man with a "back in my day..." speech, I can't stand the new stuff. It's been years since I've heard a new rapper that I enjoy listening to and gave up on trying. Awhile back I kept hearing about how great Kendrick was so I gave him a shot but I just couldn't get into his music. The only song of his that I love All The Stars from Black Panther. And even that one I didn't really care for his verses, I just love SZA's parts in that song. Such a damn good chorus. New hip hop has a different stop-and-go style that I can't stand, it's not smooth and doesn't flow like the old stuff so I don't like it. But to each their own and I'm glad that kids these days enjoy it, just not my thing.
Some of my favorites are
Living Legends, especially Murs
Tupac
Biggie
Eminem
Ice Cube
Common
A Tribe Called Quest. When they dropped We Got It From Here... a few years ago, that was the first album I got excited about in so long!
Wu-Tang
Mos Def
Talib Kweli
I went to Rock The Bells in 06 and that was hands down my best concert experience! Seeing Wu-Tang together again was amazing, and not only Mos and Talib individually but reunited doing their Black Star hits was surreal.
