Why are the amount of referrals you have shown?

I've looked through the FAQ's but one thing I didnt see anything about was why the amount of referals you have is shown ( if i missed it in all of the threads, I apologize.) Does it have a purpose, or is it just a random feature? Im just curious

Well, the reason it's shown on profiles I can only assume it's there for fun, but I found this thread that explains because I am lazy.

@timnudist is also correct. It's showing how social you are talking to others about it and encouraging people to join up.

Sending out Referrals doesn't do anything though for you as an individual beyond showing the number. No special access to any certain sections or ranks. Just something a bit of fun, similar to what @Ren pointed out.

I'm pretty sure I have referrals on my profile but I can't imagine why. I don't understand how it keeps track of those things. I'll take it though I guess.

I always imagined it just tracks how many times you've copied and pasted the link

I don't think that's really possible unless someone else has your account login information, because your referall link can only be seen by you (and probably staff members too, but they have no reason to do so) on your profile.

You can also credit people for a referral if you mention their username when you sign up.

We can't even directly see your referral link. :p But like you said, no reason for us to even care about that. We can see your member id, and that's what the link is if you ever want to know what your member id is. It's the number at the end of your link.
