My guess is that in the 1980s, mainstream media and politicians spread propaganda about gay people, claiming that they're all pedophiles.

40 years later and they're doing the same with trans people. Saying that they're men dressing up as women and they like to go in women's bathrooms for nefarious purposes when in fact that obviously doesn't make any sense considering anyone can walk in, not being trans doesn't stop someone from doing something criminal. Funny they only target trans women too, forgetting trans men. Or at the very least, trans men are used as a scapegoat less than trans women are.

Usually they are not even aware transmasc people exist. If someone says they are trans, they automatically assume transfemme. Which leads to hilarious results when they say shit like "you will never be a real woman" to a trans man.

Welcome, @mountainbare I've had similar with age difference at the club I am now heavily involved in when I first visited just before my 30th birthday. I could have let it put me off but I knew that many other younger people would have left because of it already. What I decided was to stick with it and if other younger people came and saw me they might be more encouraged to do the same. Now those older guys have become some of the best friends I've ever had but we also have had younger people joining. For a few years I was the youngest member but now we have had others including someone who is younger that I was when I first went. I think you should do the same, stick with it and you could have a brilliant bunch of friends and be an encouragement to others your age.

What lies about LGBT?

The specific one that came to mind were that "diseases are being spread through toilet seats or the hot tub." There are other comments and stances too that just aren't consistent with reality.

But yeah, I'm hanging in there to try and change the culture. Many of these problematic individuals left after COVID, and a few of us have started making progress against the private country club mentality. We'll get there.
