Starting a naturist Youtube channel

My fiancee and I are discussing the idea of potentially starting a youtube channel surrounding naturism once we're married. For context, we're both from Europe and I got her into naturism when we started dating. We were discussing the type of content we would focus on and we like the concept of the channel Nick & Lins (https://www.youtube.com/@NakedWanderings/featured ). They never show explicit nudity, but it is still all naturist focussed content. We aren't necessarily against showing full nudity, but youtube doesn't monetize it and we don't really like the idea of it being behind a paywall or anything like that. I feel like we also attract more genuine naturists this way rather than creeps that just want to see the nudity. The drawback though is that part of what we want to accomplish is the normalization of nudity and naturism, which would be taken away partly by having to blurr nudity.

In terms of content my idea was to have "general" naturist videos, for example where we visit a resort or show new places or do things like q&a's/discussing topics and on the other hand have a series of videos along the line off "trying things naked" where we try something new naked in every video. At the start it would be more simple things like trying gardening naked, trying baking naked or trying hiking naked, but eventually we could also approach more locations and more people and do bigger activities like trying pottery naked, trying archery naked or trying bouldering naked. So actually activities people go and do outside of their homes. I feel like this will also appeal to a younger crowd and also a more non naturist crowd since people that know very little about naturism might not be that interested in yet another naturist resort video but if they see "trying minigolf naked" they might me more intrigued and then they see nudity in a different way than they are used to. We are 27 and 26 and want to also show there are plenty of naturists around our age out there.

We still haven't decided on anything or if we even want to commit to it, but we're both quite open to it, because it's something we're passionate about. We are still just in the brainstorming fase so any ideas and thoughts are welcome. Also I am happy to answer any questions :)

I wonder if Substack would be a good platform.  I use it to also host my podcast. Substack does have the video component to it and it's a growing blog service.  Maybe, it could be worth a look?

I think its a great idea!  A few thoughts immediately sprang to mind, in no particular order:

1) Creating videos and running a Youtube channel can be fun! It can also be a lot of work. If you haven't already, sit down and write down what you both truly want to achieve with this channel.  Is it just a passion project, where there's a minimum expectation for income?  Or are you hoping for this channel to become a business / an actual job?  The answers to these questions will set your expectations and approach accordingly!

2) Youtube is still the place to be for long-form video content.  No question.  If your goal is to reach as many people as possible, that's where you'll want to be.  Personally, I don't think blurring content is necessarily a bad thing. So long as the content you create is engaging, people will come back to see you.  Not your genitals.

3) I like the idea of a "doing it..naked" series.  IE:  Walking the dog... NAKED!  That kinda thing.  Sure, the video titles will need to be a little sensationalized to draw attention, because thats how the people/the platform works.  But I could see that approach being unique in the YT space and effective at drawing views. If all goes well, that kind of content will propel you a lot closer to fulfilling your goal. It's certainly better than the usual "we went to a nudist beach for the 20th time" type of content.

4) As you already know, most people in their 20's/younger have fairly short attention spans when it comes to social media. If that's who you're appealing to, then the editing, pacing, and subject of your videos will need to match their viewing habits and expectations.

5) Lastly, despite all of what I just said, don't pressure yourself to nail it the first or even tenth time. The biggest and most important step is posting content. Become comfortable with the content creation process and being on camera first. You can focus on the rest, once all of that is sorted.

Good luck and have fun!!

Wow I wish I saw this earlier @Maurits

I wanted to do a nudist influencer content for a while but my life situation does not allow me to have free time to create, edit, consume, and response to such demands so I never launched it. But I will give you some small advice/concerns for you to consider.

Regarding video, YouTube is the best for views. You can try to do uncensored, where despite the promise that non-sexual nudity is allowed, it will probably get deleted. An Australian woman named Jessca or something had a channel called the Nude Blogger where for years she did videos uncensored without a problem. It was deleted two year ago or so but she came back with a new channel with strategic covering and lots of background video but with her voice. She does offer uncensored content but with the links to outside paid sites.

That was going to be my strategy to have no blur or bars over nudity but cover with hands, vase, box etc, maybe show cheeks depending if allowed, and offer uncensored content on other sites. You will still be limited though. Vimeo charges for views now, Pateron changes rules alot and isn't very easy to navigate, OnlyFans has the porn stigma, twitter/X is full of racist hateful content/users. There are probably places like Rumble that claim to be uncensored but will for sure delete/ban content, or sites that are low bandwidth/loading, and of course many places where just consider nudity as porn and not even allow it. Also consider to grow you will have to use other platforms such as tikTok, instgram etc.

Are you doing this for money? Do you care to get paid or just for fun? Right now YouTube payout is long content but the algorithm is for short content. The naked lins are a name that I have not heard in a long time, glad to see that they grew a bit and did not give up. I do not know how they get money. Also they started pre-covid and their growth from blog to vlog was not fast. So depending on the money situation, would you be willing to be sponsored by a federation, resort, or be self funded, crowd funded, or go indie?

Also your content. YouTube will drop you from the algorithm if you do not post regularly or perform well. My channel was to have video vlogs/reports on nude beaches, camps, footage of naked bike rides and nudist events. But in between travel season I was going to fill it up with other related content. Responding to news regarding nudity and the human body, interviews with other nudists (goal for when my channel grew big enough), videos about past nudist events/icons/place (though that was going to research heavy topics), doing everyday things like cooking, building a Lego set, playing video games (people love that crap), playing a sport like golf (had to find a nudist camp with one though), reviewing movies, and my favorite/dreaded one was to start some super nerdy thing like Magic the Gathering or D&D and have filmed nudist sessions. Also consider that the algorithm is always changing (same with platform's rules).

Last consider your audience. Who are you aiming for more, the converted nudists, the old AANR crowd, potential converts, random people googling 'nude beach' or 'naked people'? Are you aiming for a generation? I've heard genZ are very prude weak generation that just spends time on the phone, that sounds like both a hard audience and a way to grow. What about language? English is still the best to use on the internet but American viewers do consider nudity as sex still. You are gay so does that affect you potential audience. Dirty secret, but I was going to hire more attractive women in my videos to drum up views. Some might view that as shameful but I view it as showbusiness baby. Also once it is posted can you handle the attention? Online hate, real life people recognizing you in public and work for both you and your partner. What if your partner decides to stop one day? Can you successful delete content that has him or continue without him?

I am very sorry if this is nothing of wall of texts that you find annoying. Nudism is a passion and lifestyle for me, it is just like being Catholic or having black hair or loving movies and my dog.
I hope you consider strongly because I would hate to see you start and then give up. If you want to discuss anything about this please message to get in touch. I am very much willing to help any way I can to nudist creators. Good luck

We have thought about a lot of these things and we want our videos to reflect more the daily life of naturists so the examples you gave about cooking, building a lego set and playing video games is more the content we will be aiming for.

Also my partner is female so yeah I think that also helps with targeting a broader audience. We noticed the amount of "closet nudists" there are and we want to appeal to them as well as long standing and new naturists and hopefully even encourage non naturists to try it out. We are in our late 20s and hope to also appeal to a younger crowd.

Our aim isn't necessarily to make a lot of money, but if we want to commit the time we want to, we would need at least some passive returns to make it worth our time and energy. We would try to upload once a week if possible, because as you said consistency is important, but that is a lot of time going into filming and editing so we will eventually rely on contributions from our viewers through patreon for example. We are against putting uncensored content behind a paywall though so we won't go down that route. We will also censor nudity to get a bigger reach and monetization on youtube while still being able to show our lifestyle.

Yes I would imagine that you would want a return on money for at least server costs, website hosting, or whatever thing a social media account would end up charging for you.

I must have gotten you confused with another user who is French and gay and has a similar username. Regardless, I still say to think about your partner and her public image and potential future participation (not saying that you guys are going to break up or anything). And language too. Not sure where you are from or your ethically/language usage.

Keep us updated on your thoughts and progress. I am sure the whole forum would like to support you if you do launch a channel.

What are you talking about? They have not yet made a channel yet

Maurits

We haven't actually started the channel yet but we still have plans to. We also want to film and edit several videos in advance before we start posting.
