I would publish the book because I don't really like ebooks, as they are too big of a hassle.

Dead trees and ebooks aren't mutually exclusive options.

I suspect the file stops working at the end of the loan period. The library here offers books for two of the readers, though not the most popular readers.

How would that be enforced?

I read an interesting article (in Newsweek?) a couple weeks ago about how self-publishing and e-books are changing the landscape of publishing. Amazon now sells more e-books than it does paper books. I'm sure things will look very different ten years from now.

You're probably right, but I hope that paper books remain popular. I don't think I could read an ebook. I much prefer to read things in paper format, whether that's the daily newspaper or a novel. Besides, I stare at a computer screen way too much as it is.

That's why they invented e-ink. The ink is physically there on the device so it doesn't strain your eyes. Works very well.

Well then...I guess I need to get with the 21st century and see if I can borrow a kindle or Sony Reader to see how I like it.

Look at a highly zoomed picture of the kindle and iPad: http://www.bit-101.com/blog/?p=2722

You can see clearly how e-ink is better for books.

Those of you interested in writing a book should do it, even if it never gets published.  So many people want to but never do.

Every November, I take part in something called Nanowrimo. The challenge is to write a 50,000 word novel between November 1-November 30. It averages to about 1,667 words per day, or just over 3 pages. Last year, my third attempt, I finally "won". Sure the writing is a piece of crap that will never be published, but I can say that I wrote a novel.

You can search more info about it online. Who knows, maybe this year we could have a group of nudists writers. :)

Why not? Polish it and give it a try. You can self publish for free with print-on-demand.

In order to polish it, I would need to complete rewrite it. The plot is horrible, some characters are people I actually know with their real names.... it's just not worthy of publishing. I am working on one that I would like to eventually publish. I've been working on that one off and on (more off than on) for about 3 years now.

My current writing project is a one-act children's play that is scheduled to for production in the spring. So, I have to finish it as there's an important deadline.

That's my hang up with writing, if I don't have a deadline, I take forever to write.
