I used to live by a lake and my friend had a boat. It was neat to see everything from a different perspective. even if they didnt know how to steer.

I am quiet experienced with canoes.

Accorse if you want to go on wild side.  When I was in pacific I went on traditional sailing outrigger canoes.  The navigators of these canoes can easily go hundreds even thousands of miles across open ocean.  outer islands south of Guam still do this today, just like it use to be done across the pacific, and they do it often to meet family members.

Aside from that I do a lot of canoeing and kayaking too.

Anyone in pacific northwest into such?

I'm about to do my L2 paddlesport coaching course, so I'll be able to train and assess up to BCU 2* level (UK) in both open canoes and kayaks once I've done the assessment. I'm also a decent whitewater paddler and I compete for Durham University! That's not saying too much though, anyone in the canoe club can :P

I've done a lot of canoeing. It's got to be the most uncomfortable mode of transportation ever invented.

I looked around on craigslist for one to buy, but used ones didn't seem much cheaper than new ones. There's a nice lake near here but I'm a bit worried about the 'gators in it.

Gets a lot comfier if you glue in some good thick foam padding or just sit instead of kneeling, but I do agree. Kayaking's superior :P
