I just saw Robin Hood in theater.
For starters, I have to say this is a great movie to go to with a date to make out or if your more daring to see naked. I was the only one in the entire theater. The weekend box office was $5,133,000 net total of $94,262,000 though it cost more than $200 million dollars to make with no CGI.
First lets start what this movie isn't and is. Its not the Robin Hood story that we all have grown up hearing. They did a lot of research into actual history and historical origins of Robin Hood. Don't expect to see "Men in Tights", or anything you think of from any other Robin Hood Movies since this is trying to reinvent the legend but as form of prequel; for the movie sets up events that lead up to were legend begins. The plot of the story is not to bad, though it could use some improvement. They went ahead and talked about how the different characters who make up the Merry Men came to be. Though they did such in lack luster way, putting more emphasis on Friar Tuck, and not so much on say Little John(granted there is funny one liner reference to how he got that name). Instead they focus mostly on Robin Hood and Marion. They also tried to develop Robin Hood's past. I like the interesting approach they took, trying to tie it in with the Magna Carta. It just seems that though out the movie they hinted at his past, and then towards end of movie it was like the writers forgot that they needed to actually do something and they rushed some scenes in.
The acting was good, but not great. Russell Crowe did do a good job, but nothing epic. Cate Blanchett I thought actually did a better job in my own opinion.
As comparied to other Robin Hood Movies, I believe that Prince of Thieves was better, and even in some ways Men in Tights?
In end, is this movie worth seeing? Yes, but I recommend seeing it at second run movie theater or watch it once it comes out on dvd/netflix. Or if you have a date and dont mind being the only ones in theater.
Anyway, this is my review. Hope my thoughts were helpful.
