Is MTV helping to promote naturism?
« on: July 22, 2010, 09:43:27 am »
Here is advert from MTV Networks UK & Ireland as part of their “LESS CLOTHES, MORE MUSIC” campaign, which is promoting their summer programme of TV shows that covers all of their six UK channels for the next six weeks.

What I love about this video is that it “depicts” young people nude and enjoying the summer and the music. I don’t think MTV was trying to promote naturism but use “sex to sell”. But all the same, well done MTV for a cool advert and unintentionally promoting naturism to a younger generation!

What do you think of it?

I like the “LESS CLOTHES, MORE MUSIC” slogan

But i do not think it is promoting Naturism, although it's nice that MTV promotes young people enjoying the summer and the music nude, it's more about like you say it "sex to sell". Except for the last part of the video i can only see nude young people walking around in public places... And unless there is some change in the law that i do not know off walking around nude in public places still is illegal.

I love the english accent. It makes it sound fancier! I think the nudity is more of an attention getter more than anything. I wouldnt say "sex sells" for this. I think MTV in england has started to see nudity is more fun that dirty. People were having fun and smiling stripped down instead of trying to sell themselves, trying to get the audience steamy. hopefully more steps in this direction!

i agree with Cab... it gets attention, not necessarily "sex sells" but because nudity depicted in that manner is bold and unusual enough to be noticeable.

but it also links being naked with partying and having fun, so that is a positive message.

actually, "clothes" is a weird one.  it doesn't have a singular - "fewer" is correct where you are talking about something which is in plural, but "clothes" doesn't have a non-plural form with the same meaning ("clothe" is not the singular of "clothes").

fewer clothes is probably correct, but i am not 100% certain that "less clothes" is strictly incorrect, either.

Nah, if you want 'less' in there it'd need to read "less clothing, more music" - I'm near as dammit certain you can't have "less clothes".

Oh, so I checked MTV UK's facebook page, found the entry in question and found, well, pretty much zero interest: no photo uploads (although it's only been there four days) and only four comments - guess it's not having that much of a promotional effect! :P

Hi MTV, how about going one step further next year and have a slogan proclaiming "NO CLOTHING, MORE MUSIC!" ?
 :-D  :624 :4345
"How ridiculous society is! Why be given a body if you have to shut it away like a rare, rare fiddle?"

I don't like that advert at all - it is sexist and treats nudity as little more than something to snigger about rather than as a wholesome unabashed lifestyle in itself.  Try again, MTV.  You are capable of doing better.  :324 :12345

How  is it sexist?  It was naked people walking to a naked party with dubstep as background music.

They were not naked - they had pixels over certain body parts.  It was okay to show the guys bare chested but not the females.

If you're going to feature nudity in an advert, then have the decency to show it in a way which comports the subject positively, not as a figure of ridicule.
