Favorite Athlete of All Time
« on: July 24, 2010, 04:05:00 am »
I know most, like me, have a favorite athlete of all time. As far as baseball goes, being my number one sport, I would have to choose Troy Glaus as my favorite player since he was a home-town hero to me. But i don't think he can even compare to the ways Michael Jordan has inspired me through out my life. Hands down not only is he the only greatest athlete of all time, to me, but my favorite as well.

Who is your favorite athlete of all time?

Even though this is a slight copout, I will say that my favorite is Michael Jordan. Simply put, he was the best at what he did and he made you want to watch him. When I watch old videos of him I wish I was born ten years earlier in Chicago just so I could have watched him play live. I also just loved his work ethic. He knew he was good, but took it a step further and trained to be a legend. You have to respect that.

I'm going to out on a limb here. :)

He's not at the same level as all these other examples, but my favorite player is Dan Wilson, catcher for the Mariners. I admire greatly his defensive skills and humility.

The best sportsmen I know, were Max Schmeling and Joe Louis.

Schmeling and Joe Louis became friends following a 1954 meeting on the U.S. television program This Is Your Life. Schmeling and Louis met twelve times afterwards as friends, and he helped to pay the impoverished Louis' medical bills. In 1981 Schmeling served as a pallbearer at Louis's funeral, for which he helped pay. Until shortly before his death, he made several trips a year around the world to attend activities related to his boxing career. He has been the object of several books, including a biography, and in 2001, Starz produced a movie about him and Louis named Joe and Max.

They are both member of the International Boxing Hall Of Fame.

Despite the terrible second World War, these two friends for life.
Both grew up in different nations, who suffered their political systems, were dropped by their superiors failed to sports than success. But their friendship has kept the same.
They never gave up and kept their friendship to the death.
I find that the best thing about the sport.

Only a few great athletes can represent something.
Max Schmeling was until his death, a highly respected man, the German sport owes much.
The international recognition after the war was influenced by his fate.

Hi friends,

my comment was not only to the person Tim Below.
I wanted to contribute with my question suggests that you write why you see these athletes just as your number 1.
Write down not just any name, something more is better for all

Fair enough.  My dad is my favorite athlete not just because he's good (which he is, having done marathons, half Iron Mans, and 110 mile bike rides, in addition to walking the Grand Canyon in one day), but because he has taught me two things.  First, that you don't have to be thin to be fit (he's 6'2 and 270 pounds), which goes very well with the lesson of "judge people by what they do, not what they look like".  Second, the inspiration and pressure to become athletic myself (if it weren't for him, I'd have never gotten into biking, fencing, or swimming).  That is why my dad is my favorite athlete.
