Cars: Manual or Automatic transmission?

trust me its a lot less intimidating once you actually start to practice a bit.
if you ever do id recommend a large parking lot as with any other car tbh but also try different foot position techniques like heel-toeing. as well as practicing for on hills. you dont even have to be on a hill for that just get used to where the burning point on the clutch is and use the hand brake technique if applicable.

They syncho on mine has bit the dust. There is no way to shift into second gear - double clutching, downshifting, or even from a dead stop. I'm working on muscle memory to go in a U from 1st to 3rd.

gotta do the ol' start the car in 2nd gear and hope you dont burn out your starter

You can't get  into 2nd gear. It's either starting in 1st and shifting to 3rd or slipping the clutch and starting in 3rd.

my buddy recently got a 99 tacoma for fairly cheap. turns out after a bit of driving we realized the synchros are going bad and occasionally grind into gear.. he doesnt seem to grasp the idea of double-clutching yet. that may help but it could also be a bad clutch.

My dad used to double clutch actually, sometimes doing everything fully manually works best even if your synchronised gear box is working perfectly. I doubt I'd ever be able to do it because you've got to be quick and focused

double clutching will always be better on the transmission simply because it gives the synchros less work to do. i do understand it obviously isnt very convenient to try and do but at the same time its really not as difficult as some might think. simply letting the clutch out while in nuetral to allow the gears in the transmission to match engine speed.

How easy is it to get wrong though especially if you have to get it all matched up in a limited space of time?

Have you tried float shifting?  Its pretty common in trucking where the transmissions are not synchronized

@Longingtobenude For some reason floating gears does not work in trans that have synchros - working or not. Yeah, once in awhile you can just slide it in or out of 3rd gear, not 2nd, 4th, or 5th).

I switched now to automatic and I would never go back to stick for my daily car.
