N magazine (Nude and Natural published by The Naturist Society) is still being published, but Barnes and Nobles decided to stop carrying it some years back. If you go to their website, you can purchase current and/or back copies of their magazine.
Ilsley Boone, creator of The Nudist/ Sunshine and Health and former president of the A.S.A. (American Sunbathing Association (now known as AANR, American Association for Nude Recreation)) was in a lawsuit to defend the rights to publish unedited nudist photos in his magazine. Most photos were airbrushed from the early days, but greater demand for unedited images caused a long battle after the post office refuses to deliver them. The battle paved the way for the unedited photos found in magazines from them on, but cost were never recouped and competion increased. In the early 60's Ilsley Boone (aka Uncle Danny) was forced to sell Sunshine and Health and lost his position as president of the ASA. In the late 60's the magazine ceased production. It was briefly published in the early 80's by another publisher.
Ed Lange was a photographer who started as a free lance for Sunshine and Health, but after a disagreement with Boone on the direction of nudist magazines, he started his own company called Elysium. Originally it's goals were to bring a more realistic view of nudist, by the late 60's his magazines took a few different directions, some of which made him lose favor with the nudist community, and was later regreted by him. In 2001 the last of his.company was resolved and his.daughters destroyed all his images remaining at the company, a collection dating back to the 40's. The most recent issue of N magazine has an article on him.
Clothes with the Sun later name changed to N magazine or Nude and Natural has been published by The Naturist Society for 36 years. One of a hand full of naturist magazines published today, and the only one from the US (to my knowledge) has very little staff. Most of their articles and images are submitted by readers. They have stricter guidelines regarding who can advertise on them then.many of the other magazines and their articles cover a wide range of naturist related topics.
This is only a small, brief history of some of the American publishers. The history of these magazines is not always the easiest to find.
