What do you think about German rock bands?
Are these in your countries as popular as ours?
Which German bands you know?

I would appreciate a lot of answers

Does Metal count?

I like Debauchery (mostly pre- "Continue to Kill"), Neaera, Caliban, Fear My Thoughts and some others I don't have in mind now. But as an Austrian, I am bound to know some German bands. :D

Gotta say I only know Helloween, Rammstein and Nina Hagen from those mentioned. Can't say they are popular, certainly not as popular as they should be in Germany, but they do have a following.

I know of a number of bands.  Some for example are In Extremo and Rammstein.  Thier may be others, but I'm not sure if I know if they are from Germany.  I've found that where a band is from isnt as importent to me.  That being said I did just buy Remmstein's Liebe Ist Fur Alle Da.

Same here
But sometimes it's just nice to know where a band is from

I can agree with that.  It can be insightful to trying to fully understand what the lyrics of a song mean.  Even the context of where a person is in their life can bring intersting insight into what they are trying to express in a song.  For example Weezer's albam Pinkerton had a very angry sound to it and didnt sell well.  At the time that albam was being writen the song writer was going though a long and painful medical procedure to lenthen his one leg to match the other one.  As a result the albem refected that.

On a bit of a side note, becuase of his mismatched legs the lead singer for Weezer was never that athetic and always Weezed in gym class.  His classmates nicknamed him weezer and that is where the band name comes form.

Guano Apes!!
Another great German band i've forgot :45
And now i'm thinking of it, 'Big In Japan' was also covered by another great German singer: Sandra!!

Sandra also did the vocals for the single 'Sadeness' by Enigma, a project created/founded by her former husband Michael Cretu (Curly M.C.),
and Sandra is also best known for this song:

A few years ago, a girlfriend of mine in Europe introduced me to this German band and while it wasn't and isn't my taste in music, I found them intriguing and the popularity of them all is extreme.  I know many of my German friends -- especially the guys -- are not fans but there are thousands who are, for sure, of both genders.  Watch this space for comebacks from our German friends!   :66664333  But I think they are kinda cool and expressive.

A comment from a German fan seems to put it in a nutshell.

Quote
i'm from germany and i can seriously say that some german people don't like them because they're too different.. but everyone should respect them and their work because for german bands & singers it's VERY difficult to get famous in america and they are one of i guess only 1 or 2 bands who did it although tom and bill are just 20 years old.. or 21.. whatever

Of course, they DO have a sense of humor too.

Tom Kaulitz : Show me your vagina.

1:05 "hey, can you teach me something in german?"

      1:07 "YES! IN GERMAN YEAH!!

(and immediately they do it again on another video)

      1:08 "show me your vagina!"

Is Wolfsheim very popular in Germany? Here in Belgium they are played at Goth parties but not that often
This is my favorite Wolfsheim song:

Also very popular German New-Wave/Dark-Wave related bands here are Das Ich, Deine Lakaien, No More, D.A.F., Welle:Erdball and Project Pitchfork

I know Wolfsheim for a long time. Heard them live at Rock am Ring 1999. The singer Peter Heppner has such a clear voice, incredible. But they split up. Peter does some solo project since 2 years.
