Who are your fave music producers?  Mine are:

1) Mike Chapman - he's produced artists like Sweet, Suzi Quatro, Blondie, Tina Turner, Divinyls, Pat Benatar, Mud and Smokie

2) Jeff Lovejoy - Powderfinger, Regurgitator, Danger Bunnies, Dream Poppies, Strutter

3) Brendan O'Brien - RATM, Train, Powderfinger and countless others

4) Sir George Martin - The Beatles, Aerosmith, The Goons, Cilla Black

5) Georgio Moroder - Sparks, Blondie, Donna Summer, Sigue Sigue Sputnik, Chicory Tip

6) Stephen Street - Morrissey, Blur, The Cranberries, Danielle Dax

I don't usually pay attention to who the producer of a song or album is, although sometimes the producer is more important than the band. This sometimes becomes apparent when the original recording of a song went nowhere, but when the band records it with another producer, it becomes a major hit.

There's a book with a title like "1001 songs you must hear before you die" that I read, and certain producers kept turning up over and over. Here are some who produced many hits:

one of my favorite producers is Butch Vig, better known for his work with Nirvana. He also worked with Smashing Pumpkins and most recently with Jimmy Eat World, Muse, Green Day and also linked back up with Dave Grohl for the Foo Fighters greatest ever hits and also produced the single Wheels

Trevor Horn (a member of Yes in 1980–1981, also of The Buggles and Art of Noise) who won a Grammy Award for producing "Kiss from a Rose" by Seal.

Wow! All these are great. I have one to add and currently he is my favorite right now, because I love the way he works and tries to find the sweet spots when recording. His name is Robert Carranza. He's recorded Jack Johnson, Zee Avi, The Mars Volta, Los Lobos, Salvador Santana, and many more. Definitely a great dude.
