All time best game?

So far the best games for me would have to include

Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time

L.A Noire - and that's despite the legal action and controversy

Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword

Sonic the Hedgehog

Pokemon - most of the versions

It really depends on the mood I'm in. Sometimes three friends and Goldeneye still makes the afternoon perfect, and sometimes Skyrim at two in the morning scratches the itch. I've been getting more and more into retro DOS games and the like. Castle of the Winds is a blast (and it's freeware now - google it.) The Uncharted games were fascinating theatrically.

It's kinda like saying who the "best" musician is - at a certain level, it's all perfection, and personal preference and mood determines what the most enjoyable will be.

-GTA4: for plot, missions, chases, and GAMEPLAY
-Skyrim: for big fantasy world
-Far Cry 2: for atmosphere

-MINECRAFT: for blocks :)

For me its a toss up between final fantasy 7,  street fighter 2 and occarina of time.   Resident evil 2 and okami round out my top 5.

I thought about what criteria I'd use to judge the best game, but then I decided that I didn't want to think about criteria, so I'm just going to say what were my favorite.

I was tempted to agree with Mario64, and right now the game I play the most is Team Fortress 2.

But my favorite has to be a series of DOS Adventure/RPG games called Quest For Glory.  (And if you're making me choose one, I'll choose the remake of the first one.)  It was just fun.  Not really linear, tons of cheesy jokes and pop-culture references woven in, an interesting story, and beautiful music.  I played it growing up and I'm sure it had an impact on me.

Yes, Then Halo 2 brought the online gaming that changed everything.  Originally the first console game that started the FPS hype was 007 on nintendo 64.

Note: New breed, no one had ever heard of a game in which you could battle aliens, drive tanks and fly planes, Carry rocket launchers and have shields. Two just opened up the internet for console fps.
