Finally another update! Sorry for the delay. This one is an Alpine trip where everything went wrong. It was also a scorcher of a day (about 35 C at sea level).

Interesting story, Karla! I wonder what Richard felt like when he still didn't see you two come down the mountain when it got dark.

He wrote up his account here

The dog was really frantic in the morning when we finally met up.

Even though it was 35C during the day it got down to just a few degrees at night. Ironically we over-nighted near a dead tree that provided as much firewood and kindling as we could ever hope to want but we had no way of starting a fire. Since then I now always take a cigarette lighter or a fire steel with me.

The funniest thing was that springy pine bush we tried sleeping on. Every time we'd doze off, we'd move in our sleep and get catapaulted off again. If I had a handsaw I could have made a nice shelter for ourselves. It was actually quite an educational night all in all. I wanted to do some photos in the morning with the sunrise but Stuart didn't think that it was a good idea considering how cold it had been.

The stars were amazing though that night.

I know he must have been worrying, even given that you two are experienced hikers!

If it's my case, I would be extra-paranoid about my lost party, for sure.
