Well, if I were stranded on a desert island, my first choice would of course be Boat Building and the Army survival manual. But to answer the question as I know I should...
1.Army survival manual.
2.Tain Bo Cuailnge, or in English, the Cattle Raid of Cooley.
3.The Robert Louis Stevenson Collection.
4.The Gallic Wars, by Gaius Julius Caesar.
5.The Little Book of Iron Age Skills 1 and 2.
-Padraig

You sound wise beyond your years Padraig.... I'm assuing the Robert Louis Stevenson Collection is for when your sanity finaly goes a bit "Tom Hanks" you will have something to do looking for promised treasure?

"The Complete Guide to the Edible & Medicinal Flora of the South Pacific"
"The SAS Survival Manual"
"Building with Bamboo: A Handbook"
"Advanced Wilderness First Aid"
"The Little Savage"
Millions of years of evolution have combined to produce me.
I'm rather hoping that I don't bugger it up in one lifetime.

Thanks, but actually that's just where my tastes take me.
Heheh, maybe, seeing as I prefer a good book to a volleyball any day. :)

1. Peter Pan- The greatets book of all time!
2. The Bible- My second favorite.
3. Men of Tomorrow- Great book on the early history of American comic books.
4. The Wonderful Wizard of Oz-Also love this book!
5. League of Extraordinary Gentlemen- Every fictional creation rolled into one.  Endless creative fun.

The greatest book of all time? Really?

I do say so (in my opinion).
The original book looks on the surface like a well-written children's adventure story, but reading the original book,, you'll find that it's at times satire, philosophy, emotional dissection, and yes some adventure and romance to top it all off. Complex characters, satisfying conclusions, and possibly the most engaging prose style I've ever read. Every time I read a page, I stumble across new and profound meanings everytime.

Of course, I'm currently celebrating Peter Pan Fest and even when I'm not, I attribute 4 out of the 5 things I do to this book. So this is my highly biased opinion of course.

That said, if you ever need a book to read, and have either never read it or only when you were very young, then I say get the original copy out and read it. I can't recommend any book more highly, especially since this year marks the 100th year of its publication.

Thanks Superpan, you may just have inspired me to put it on my list.

Cheers

To find 5 favorite authors is really heavy.

I think there are:

1. Stephen King
2. Tess Gerritsen
3. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle
4. Guy de Maupassant
5. Martin Suter (His novel, "the cook" I was very impressed)
