Books: Digital or physical?

For travel, I use a Kindle to avoid lugging lots of books around, but otherwise I prefer a paper book. And for studying, I hate e-books because scrolling is never as easy as physically flipping back and forth, although having a search function is admittedly useful.

Right! Studying with a digital book is just painful for me and I don't think I retain the information as well.

And digital becomes even more painful with books that have endnotes instead of footnotes (ugh). At least with phyisical books you can keep a finger on the page with the notes and flick back and forth easily, but with ebooks you often have to scroll and wait for it to load.

Yeah, endnotes are the absolute worst but I would argue even footnotes can be pretty bad, depending on the exact formatting of course.

I can get most books for free on my phone and I always have that. I don't like carrying unnecessary weight.

Without a doubt physical over digital. Digital doesn't offer the same tactile feel as holding a device. Hardcover,  when affordable, feels even better then paperback.

I used to be a big fan of physical books (I still am) and only used ebook for those I couldn't get the physical copies. However, in the last 2 years, I find out that with ebooks, I can read more efficiently. I use my kindle and smart phone to read in parallel. But on holiday, I tend to use the kindle as the battery last longer.

Also, on trips to naked places, I usually read with kindle to avoid the trouble with people thinking I'm trying to take any unsolicited photos.

I enjoy book in my and I have tried to use a kindle but disliked it. My siblings on the other hand enjoy reading from there kindles.

Way easier to read a physical book, but easier to get ahold of ebooks. Especially now.

For me it depends on where I'm reading. If it's at home, definitely digital.  I can adjust the screen brightness, easily bookmark and highlight things etc.  If I'm somewhere like the beach, definitely physical.  It doesn't risk getting damaged, loss of battery, and just easier to handle and see.

I used to think physical books were the only way to go, but ever since getting an e-reader I can tell you it's a lot easier to bring it onto a train while traveling vs what might be a heftier book. One major set back/advantage is how much easier it is to buy books immediately on your e-reader. Gonna hurt my wallet if I'm not careful.

Gotta say, my mind has been changed, somewhat. I recently got my grandma's old Kindle 4 (not back lit, no touch screen) and I've got to say that using that might be my favorite way to read. It's easy on my eyes and there's enough customization that I never have a problem with fonts being too small. It's also super light despite being larger than a phone, so it's super convenient. I still wouldn't want to use it to read textbooks, TTRPG books, or anything you have to flip back and forth in a lot. But, for my novels and light novels it's great.

Digital is way more affordable and convenient for me right now but I'd read physical books any moment I can right now.
