"A New Kind of Oasis"
« on: March 30, 2011, 02:32:49 pm »
This is a cool article talking about a naturist neighborhood in LandO'Lakes, FL that seems to have the best of both worlds:

Quote
Although Pasco County has more nudists than anywhere else in the country (and probably the world) with 10 different venues  to choose from, most of the people in the lifestyle don't live on the properties for many different reasons. One of the reasons, of course, is that we all have "textile"( non-nudist) friends and family who want to visit but have objections to  the nudity around them.

We are not here to offend anyone, or  push our lifestyle on those who cannot break through their barriers and traditional feelings about us. We respect their rights to their beliefs as much as they hopefully respect ours.

A few years ago a great idea took hold when the Oasis was built. It is a cluster of upscale homes nestled in a quiet corner of Land O' Lakes that offers the best of both worlds. If you drive into the area, it looks like a typical suburban community with no nudity at all. But, if you walk out your back door and through a gate, there is a clubhouse, pool and a miniature nudist resort.

Unlike a "clothing optional" community like I live in, where it your choice to wear clothes or not, in the Oasis you are not "exposed" (pardon the play on words) to any nudity unless you choose to be.

It was built and completed just before the housing boom went bust, and home values have held their own better than many communities in the area. It may be an indicator of things to come for nudists who want the best of both worlds. Though I am quite happy living in Paradise Lakes, there are many instances where I know I won't be having friends or family here because of the nudity they will encounter.

The Oasis, and more communities like it, may be the future.

This is interesting, Crasher and thanks for the post.  That part of Florida has an abundance of clubs/resorts and we would like to hear any future updates on it!

That's actually a brilliant idea, just build a nudist community with the condos facing out and the nudist stuff in a collective bark yard.

On another thread it was asked if we'd ever live in a nudist community.  The general problem that many people had was being able to entertain people such as non-nudist friends/family to even friends of the kids.  It was brought up more than once that if you were a parent living in a nudist resort would probably be unfair to the kids in most cases.  The kids would only be able to have a friend from school come over to the house if both parents had a sit down where the nudist parent(s) explain what nudism is, than the friend's parent(s) would have to agree to allow their kids to go to a nudist resort just to play with a friend.  This way you have a regular house/condo on a public street with a regular front yard and the nudism is in the back yard as it were.
